A balance between work and life is something that is often discussed in the education sector but often difficult to achieve. 74% of teaching staff say in our 2018 Teacher Well-being Index that the failure to turn off work is the biggest contributor to a negative work-life balance. In Great Britain almost one out of every two (48.4 percent) adults aged 16 or over show their work-life balance to be relatively low according to results of the Office of National Statistics. This applies in particular to education. Teachers perform 20% of their work before school, after 18 pm and on weekends (10 hours or more). This can dramatically affect the lives of a teacher.  

Unlike most other professions, even when they are not employed, teachers feel the burden of colleagues, children, students and schools. 59% of teachers responding to the health survey of the Education Support Partnership reported that they had changed their behavior outside of school, as they thought that their position in school would be affected. As with your job load, there will always be arguments on how your work life and home life can be managed perfectly, but in the final analysis, it will be up to you. One of the problems in finding a balance is that life changes constantly.

Starting by setting smaller goals for changes in the general work routine can be beneficial instead of tackling all issues at once. It always needs to be done more than it is time to do so.

It can be hard to remain flexible with plans if you work in a retail area and have a schedule going around each week. If so, consider planning your schedule every week, when you find out your hours of work. It will be even harder to inspire you to continue when all of this work has accrued.
