How To Find Jobs In OKC

by Joe Cinocca Writer

Packing up your belongings and relocating to a new city can be burdensome and tough. Many corporate employees receive interviews or work transfers every year. The population ebbs and flows and if you aren’t paying attention, no one blinks an eye.

What happens if you decide to uproot to a new city and you have no plans, but just need new scenery? Oklahoma City is a growing town and changing every year. Pastures were definitely green in nearby Tulsa, but I’ve seen a pattern develop with many of my friends.

After graduating college, it’s time to enter the workforce. Friends that have lived in Tulsa their entire lives are looking for something new. New sites, new surroundings and new hope for the future.

The number one question my friends have to answer is “How Do I Find Jobs In OKC?” This is easier said than done if you are working in an oversaturated field full of applicants just as eager and determined as you are to make a mark and earn a decent wage.

The problem with job hunting in OKC or any city, for that matter, is that there are dozens of other applicants all vying for that precious interview time that seems to only be awarded to 5 or 6 prospects. If you submit your application or resume, even a few hours after the posting, your chances decrease.

I had a friend ask me recently what I would do if I were living in Oklahoma City. I told him the very first thing I would do to find jobs in OKC would be to visit a staffing agency and get plugged into their network.

It seems tedious and sometimes I have to psych myself up to go through the process, but it's no less time consuming or burdensome than submitting dozens of resumes every day or going to interviews. You still have to test well in your typing, MS Word and MS Excel skills.

So why not continue looking for that full-time permanent position between those temporary part-time staffing assignments? The money will come to you weekly via a regular check or direct deposit and when you are not on an assignment, you can keep plugging away at that corporate gig.

You can continue to bang your head into a wall and roll the dice, in hopes that the Human Resources Director will pick you or even notice your resume for a potential interview, but in this day and age, the more logical solution is to find jobs in OKC by working through a staffing agency.

The staffing agents have expertise about the new market you’ve moved into. They have relationships already established with key employers, and if you play your cards right, you can land a temporary job that might lead to a full time position if you show those companies how dedicated you are.

If you end up meeting some people at the job and they like your positivity or attention to detail, you could find yourself with a permanent position quicker than you might think. The dilemna you have to find jobs in OKC can be super easy or extremely difficult, depending on the strategy you use. The most popular areas for retail and traffic, in general would be in the Bricktown district and Penn Square Mall area.
