How to Effectively Decorate Your Home Office

by Zack Halliwell Freelance Writer

Do you work from home? If so, you might have an office space in your home which is used on a daily basis. Which means that you may want to improve it stylistically in order to get more creativity and work done on a daily basis. And so, here are some fantastic ways to decorate your home office and improve your creative spirit.

Consider the Art of Minimalism

The Scandinavian practice of minimalism is one that many people have taken to heart over the last few years. Especially as in the modern world, less is more. You can find examples of it in places like Ikea and other shops were minimalist style is at the forefront. Keep your storage options open, with good bookshelves or cupboards and that way you can file stuff away much more efficiently in your office.

And this can also be utilised for your desk chair as well. You don’t necessarily need a big, clunky, office chair in order to be happy and do lots of work. A lot of contemporary furniture can be used to be improve the look of an office.

Use Organisation as a Decorating Factor

Having a very organised space can be fantastic. A de-cluttered desk helps to de-clutter your mind as well (or so people say). So, following this practice and letting it take precedence in your office design can actually be a great tactic.

Decorating pieces on your desk such as partitions, pen pots and even just pin boards can actually be quite decorative. You can get things like Loch Ness monster pins - which are both fun and an interesting decorating choice for you to explore. Basically, just because something is needed for work it doesn’t mean it has to be boring. Have a little bit of fun with your organisation needs!

Invest in Some Wall Art

Wall art is some of the best ways to improve the appearance of a room quickly. It’s almost like an instant makeover, the way that you can go out and buy art to then make a room like almost brand new. Art can also help you when you’re feeling less creative or lacking motivation in some form or another. It can be the focal point of your room, allowing for a breath of fresh air whenever you look up at it.

And the best part is that wall art doesn’t have to be expensive. Anything under $100 can be perfectly artistic and even look chique, without it having to literally break the bank.

Don’t be Afraid of Shelving

Shelves can be a great thing. When it comes to a home office you will likely have a lot of books, files or other bits of paper just around. And shelving can actually improve the whole look of your office even without much effort. Books are decorative pieces in themselves, while you can also save some shelf space for figures, vases or other accent pieces that might spark interest.

Add Some Plant Life

Sometimes having something living can really improve the overall feeling of your home. And this is doubly the case when it comes to your home office, where you want the feeling to be vibrant and creative. After all, you want to push yourself to do work!

Plants can also help to recycle dead air in your office, giving you a much healthier environment in which to thrive. Always a good thing even though you might not actually see the benefits in a physical sense.

All in all, the way you decorate your office doesn’t have to be outlandish or out of your comfort zone. The point is to make it as conducive to your own creative happiness as possible. So, put your own flair on the decoration and watch it translate into your working life!
