How to Choose the Right Scrubs for You?

by Kevin Smith Author

If you wear scrubs to your job, you already know the importance of sizing them correctly and know that they should be loose enough to allow for movement without being too baggy. However, there are a number of other factors largely based in personal preference that can seriously impact how practical different scrubs are for different people. Before you go to your scrub shop in Tulsa, there are a few points that you should consider.

Style

Some tunics are more stylized and trendy while others are more businesslike and down-to-earth. There aren’t many real advantages or disadvantages to either. It just depends on what you feel comfortable wearing, and you may have to try on some of both before you decide which you prefer. You should also think about your neckline. A mock wrap makes you look a little slimmer, but you would not be able to use a chest pocket like you would with a v-neck. Look at your sleeves, too. You may need long or short sleeves depending on the temperature of your workplace and the substances you’re exposed to. Also think about whether you could move easier if you had scrubs with side slits or vents.

Pockets

Think about what you put in your pockets and how you would like to reach for them. You could get scrubs with no pockets, but most people find them necessary to some degree. Different options include chest pockets, patch pockets, side seam pockets, and angled pockets.

Fabric Design

Any decent scrub shop in Tulsa will have a wide range of fabric options for you to choose from, from the classic and professional to the light-hearted and fun, and you should consider them all if your office gives you a choice in what you can wear. White scrubs are the classic option, since they look clean and professional when they’re first donned, but they also look dirty very quickly, so you should avoid them if you work in messier areas, like maternity or the ER. Colors or fun patterns can also help brighten the mood in a doctor’s office. Since darker colors are slimming, larger individuals may want to consider these, and different colors and prints also tend to be appropriate during different times of the year. Whatever fabric color you pick, you should also decide whether or not you want to have a name or logo embroidered on your scrubs, though adding your name would be superfluous if you wear a name tag at work.
