How to Choose the Colour of Your New Leather Sofa?

by IV S. Consultant

Colour plays an important role in decor and interior designing. Whether it is upholstery, paint or furniture, you would need to ensure that the colour is in keeping with the overall decor scheme of a space. So, when you are deciding on what kind of leather sofa to buy, an important consideration would be colour.

Kinds of leather

When you choose the colour, you should also consider the kind of leather, such as aniline, semi-aniline and pigmented. Aniline variety of leather is the kind that ensures the natural look of leather with grains or pores. Semi-aniline leather also retains its natural look but has a pigment in it, but not enough to change the leather’s natural attributes. Pigmented leather is finished and has an additional layer of pigment to ensure that the leather doesn’t stain or tear.

Colours matter

Black is a popular choice for a leather sofa. So, when you have a black sofa in your living room, it automatically becomes a conversation piece. It definitely hogs the spotlight and is a very bold statement. But you could also pick a shade lighter than rich deep dark, and it would work quite well, for instance

If you want a leather sofa that blends with the decor scheme, you should choose one that is in tune with colours of the wall paint or the predominant colour in the room. If you have a leather sofa that is cream or beige coloured, and your walls too are of the same colour, you can use accents that have vibrant or bold colours, prints and patterns. So, for a cream-coloured sofa and walls, you can use cushions in bold orange, purple or bright green.

You could experiment with green, blue or even a grey leather sofa. How about a pale shade of green, if you have beige walls and bright elements? Or a grey leather sofa combined with pink accents? A steely blue can be matched with maroons or reds.

Browns are neutral colours and bring in a sense of understated elegance. A muted brown leather sofa will work well if you have a sunflower colour, aqua blue or a fluorescent green as an accent wall. However, not all browns are muted. There are also deep dark browns, such as red wood, walnut that are earthy and rich shades. Cream coloured accents and accessories work well with rich darker shades of brown. You could also get adventurous with a pop of colours like a stunning blue or red to offset the browns.

It’s up to the colour scheme of your home and the kind of ambience you want to create for your space, so choose the leather sofa that fits well with your personality and decor scheme.
