How to Choose OTF knife?

by Michael Levine Consultant

The OTF knives were gravity knives, which meant that you needed to hold the handle with the blade opening. You would then release the blade via a lever or button, and it locked into place until you reversed the activity along with the blade slid back into the grip, once the blade was extended. Some time in the early 20th century was added so the blade could take the front of the handle out, contrary to gravity. These knives are known as action OTF knives, because the blade needed to be retracted.

There are many companies. Hollywood depicted these blades since the signature weapons of rough or criminal-prone personalities, creating OTF knives a lot of associations with stiletto style switchblades as well as by default. Because of this, the United States began passing laws. Before you purchase, know the laws in your area.

For the uninformed, OTF knives are a type of switchblade -- which is, an automatic knife that deploys the blade ‘automatically' on pressing on the switch or on a button. Specifically, the OTF knife is a switchblade where the blade simply comes' out front'. Now, the distinction Spring Assisted Knives is that with an automatic or switchblade knife the blade place is open, and it is being held closed by a locking spring mechanism that is released using a button or switch. The button enables the energy of the spring to propel the blade out. By comparison, the natural place of this Spring Assisted Knife is shut and there is no pressure being exerted upon the blade which must be deployed by some manual activity (i.e flipping) from the user that's then aided by a spring.
