HOW TO BECOME A PART OF AN EGG DONOR PROGRAM

by Andy Coper Expert Writer
Infertility is common these days, affecting 15 percent of all couples. There are some who seek medical treatment for infertility and become pregnant eventually. In many instances, doctors recommend the use of donated eggs. Egg donation, in conjunction with IVF (in vitro fertilization) can help women with poor quality eggs conceive a child. This is quite a sensitive issue we are talking about here. As a potential donor, you help create life and bring in hope and joy where none exists.

You can enter an egg donor program, donate your eggs, and help an infertile or gay couple conceive. There are certain pre-conditions for someone to enter such a program though; for instance, you would need to be a healthy woman in the age group of 20 to 30 years to donate eggs to a qualified infertile couple. Apart from the satisfaction you get by helping somebody, such services come with financial compensation as well.

What are the criteria to get into an egg donor program?
You would need to be in good physical and emotional health. You would need to be in the age group of 20 to 30 years. You should not be having any negative and inheritable genetic traits.

As a part of the initial screening, you would be evaluated by a team of physicians having extensive experience in obstetrics, gynecology, reproductive endocrinology, and infertility. Many of these programs also come with a large team of genetic counselors, psychologists, nurses, and support staff to take care of your physical and emotional needs. These people would understand your requirements and provide you with the compassion and support you need to follow through with your noble thought. After all, there is nothing more generous than helping a gay or infertile couple become proud parents of a healthy baby. The best programs in this category are often in collaboration with leading reproductive specialists who can ensure better success rates.

Once you have cleared the initial screening in an egg donor program, a fertility expert would help you understand the egg donation process. Your profile would then be matched with intended parents. After your application is completed and approved, you might be contacted by the egg donation agency to answer any queries you might have. You would also meet up with the agency before you sign on the dotted line.

You would also have to sign certain legal contracts and agreements stating the intentions of both the parties. Such an agreement would help both the egg donor and the intended parent acknowledge their legal responsibilities towards one another.
