How to avoid hiring an amateur live band for your wedding?

by SpeechLess Music Pop, Funk, Jazz, R&B, Blues, Acoustic, Rock, Gypsy

Hiring a professional wedding band is a great way to impress your guests and ensure a lively reception. Hiring a novice or hobby band, on the other hand, can be a headache. So, you need to do your homework.

Be wary of musical groups that offer to perform their original material. Even if they are the next Maroon 5, their original songs will be unknown to guests and might be unappreciated at a wedding reception. You may also want to avoid tribute bands. Why? Well, because while it’s true that your wedding entertainment should reflect your musical taste, not all your guests may have such taste. If your taste happens to be Crispy Ambulance, then by all means, hire a Crispy Ambulance tribute act, but consider whether your guests will enjoy 5 hours of non-stop Crispy Ambulance songs.

This is why hiring a string quartet wedding band makes the most sense. They can play a number of different styles and genres and have a vast range of repertoires under their belt.

But you can’t just pick any string quartet band. Listen to the band you want to hire live at least once before the wedding. Catch their upcoming public events or hear them play at a rehearsal space to ensure whether or not there are enough recognizable songs on their set list, and a varied enough selection that will please your guests.
