How Often Should You Clean Your Bathroom Mat?

by Vikram R. Content Writer

You may buy a fancy bathroom mat online to enhance the beauty of the area. While some might choose a simple cotton bathroom mat, others might settle for a dandy polyester or jute bath mat. Infact the huge collection of bath mat online in India will leave you all amazed.

Now, your friends and relative might be impressed with your choice of bath mat online, and you also enjoy stepping on the fluffy mat after a fresh shower. But then, the last thing you would want is to step onto a rug full of bacteria and mildew. Given the bath mats are always stepped on with wet feet, they tend to become a den for fungi, bacteria, and mildew. This can be really dangerous for your health and of course for your freshly cleaned feet. Therefore, cleaning the bathroom mat is as important as keeping the loofah or towel sparking clean.

But then, we often get confused about how we should keep our bathroom mat clean. Here are some easy ways to follow.

· Primarily, the cleaning of your bathroom rug depends on the frequency of its usage in your house. Also, before you start cleaning any rug, do check the care tags. This is where you will find relevant information about how to wash bathmats with plastic or rubber backing.

· It goes without saying that if you have kids, who are particularly fond of water and play a lot in the bathroom, then you should clean your mat at least once a week. If your house has a pet (read dogs and cats) and they use your mat too, then there are high chances there can be bacteria or mildew in them. So, one should be ready to clean the rugs almost twice a week. It would be advisable if you can vacuum out the hair, dust, dirt or other debris before dumping it into the washing machine. If your mat has a rubber backing, then clean it with a microfiber cloth. This should be done especially if you are planning to wash your rug in the washing machine.

· It is advisable that you use gloves while washing it. It can be smelly too if the mat hasn’t been washed for some days. In case, you have more than four family members in your house, and no kids or pets, clean your mat at least once in two weeks.

· While washing the rugs, make sure you dry them thoroughly too. In case your mat is not properly dried and is put back into the bathroom, there are more chances of mildew and black spots. This time, it would be difficult to get rid of the spots.

· Don’t feel that throwing the bathroom mat into the washing machine makes your job easy. Never try to wash the bathroom mat in hot water. Make sure you turn on the cold settings of the washing machine and use a gentle detergent to clean it. Now, you might ask why not use hot water to clean a dirty rug because hot water helps to kill bacteria in a better way. Well, you can use that but then we are sure you don’t want the rug to become discolored or lose the sheen. Also, if you wash mats with rubber backing with hot water, you know your mat will slowly turn into a ball of mess.

These are few essential steps that you need to follow to ensure that the bathroom mats look good and get long lasting as well. You may get plenty of beautiful bathroom mats online. But don’t feel the color or quality of those won’t get hampered if you are not taking enough care of those. So cleaning of these mattresses at frequent interval is mandatory. Follow these simple cleaning tips and you can retain those for years.
