How AI Can Be Implemented In Horse Racing For Predictions and Analysis

by lean jack digital markerter

There has been a big push toward Artificial Intelligence across a number of sectors over the last five years, with the technology already making waves across a range of sports. However, horse racing is yet to use the tech in the sport, and fans are already debating how it could be implemented.

There are a growing number of sports that are using the sport to help make predictions, with the AI being vitally important when it comes to analysing how a potential matchup could play out.

However, how could the piece of tech be used in horse racing when it comes to betting on the potential outcome of some of the world’s biggest races?

How AI Works In Horse Racing

AI is already being used in some form in horse racing, with Computer-Assisted Wagering having been enjoyed by bettors since the 1980s. Here, the data produced can show the best predicted outcome for all of the runners in the field, which will give a betting edge to the gambler.

However, given horse racing’s unpredictable nature, it isn’t full-proof, meaning that shock results are still expected on a daily basis even with using this form of the tech. With the evolution of betting on the sport, according to TwinSpires signup page, there has been a greater emphasis on bettors studying the form of the horses involved, with important stats such as times and PPs all readily available at the leading sportsbooks.

However, it isn’t out of the question that AI could re-emerge as a very serious option for bettors looking to gain substantial returns from their bets in the future.

Improved Data Now Available

AI could be set to re-enter the sport of horse racing in the future, and it could be a major success with the wide varieties of data that are now available. As well as getting times for past performances, there are also stats and data registered by horses in their workouts at stables and on track.

As well as that, trainers will also have improved data when it comes to the fitness levels of their runners before some of the biggest races on the calendar, with key stats including the horses heart rate and their preferred run style based on previous performances. AI could use this data excellently when it comes to finding the most likely potential winner of a race, as it could find a betting angle from a form line that bettors may be overlooking when making their selections.

As well as data surrounding the horses in the field, there is also improved information when it comes to the ground conditions, and the likely chances of change in ground before it is officially announced. Algorithms will be able to use this information before making a final decision regarding the horse that could be set to make a stirring effort in the race that they are lining up in.

Predicting Injury

Aside from betting on the sport, AI could have an important role to play when it comes to safeguarding the sport in the future. The technology has already been at play in recent years when it has come to assessing the safety measures at tracks around the world, and that has led to a number of massive changes in some of the world’s biggest races

For example, the tech was a force behind the decision being made to reduce the number of runners in the Grand National, as well as the decision to bring the first fence closer to the start line to avoid horses building up too much speed for their first jump.

It has also been teased the AI could see things that the naked eye may not, meaning that it could help to assess the risk of a potential injury to a horse based on the stats that they are recording.

The tech will also examine the run style of a potential horse to help pinpoint whether a certain going could enhance their risk of injury due to their action. AI has also been effective in finding and assessing the behaviour patterns of horses, which can help identify fatigue, which could later lead to an injury for a horse.

Future

AI will likely be used more frequently in horse racing over the next ten years, as it is having a huge impact on the sport and safeguarding horses in active action. It is also likely to have a big impact on the betting patterns that gamblers could follow when it comes to making potential selections.

AI could find betting angles that gamblers have often overlooked, as it will be able to take in a far greater range of data in quick time to avoid hours that are spent by bettors trying to find a winner of a tricky looking race on paper.
