Household Robots: a true friend of house wives

by Anna Fowler Internet Marketing

As the consumer electronics companies compete with each by using innovation as the tool to gain market supremacy their emphasis over the past year has been on to make smart devices which are easy to operate and are able to take decisions on their own. In other words, the consumer electronics industry is fast moving towards developing robots which are capable to perform household works in efficient manner. At present there are quite a few robots available in the market which one can buy and are capable of performing certain household work. Let us look into the jobs these robots can perform.

Cleaning: Robots which can perform cleaning tasks have the maximum demand as compared to other household robots. Cleaning includes vacuuming, washing utensils, sewage cleaning, floor moping, etc Among these, robots which can perform vacuuming are the most common and iRobot Roomba is one such robot and perhaps most advanced vacuum cleaning robot available in the market. It has the features like automatic dust detection. Scooba, Mint, Mirra and Looj are the robots manufactured by iRobot that perform floor washing, hard surface cleaning, pool cleaning, gutter cleaning respectively.

Spying: If you are always worried that what your kids might be doing after you leave home? Then you need a spy robot that can help you keep a check on your kids. Spy robots are gaining popularity among consumers as these robots are both small and mobile. Rovio developed by WowWee is on such robot which has the ability to stream live video over the internet captured by its camera through a WiFi connection.

Maintenance: These are the robots that perform tasks quiet similar to that of cleaning. Automatic lawn mowers are perhaps the most in demand next to cleaning robots. These robots have the ability to automatically identify the area where the grass has to mow and performs the mowing evenly on the entire area without leaving any uneven patches. RoboMow is one such robot which is used extensively for commercial purpose such as the maintaining the football ground.

Friend and Companion: Ever thought of having a robot friend which always obeys you and follow orders and at the same time act as a friend? There are autonomous robots which can give company and entertain as well. Sony Corporation introduced AIBO etc a robotic dog in the year 1998. AIBO was popular among both kids and adults. While AIBO could perform only certain tasks like walking and barking, robot manufacturing companies are constantly working to come up with a prototype which could very much replace humans in terms of household work and as companions capable of entertaining us. Recently Toyota introduced its robot in Shanghai World Expo. This robot is capable of playing violin and as good as any human violinist. The latest prototypes of robot manufactured by Toyota can play different musical instrument like trumpets and drums forming a complete band.

While the recent trend has show an increase in the number of the autonomous household devices, the presently available robots are capable of doing a single job efficiently. A robot which is capable of performing wide range of tasks like washing clothes and utensils, cleaning floor, entertaining it owner and guests, etc is still a challenge that needs to be addressed by the robot manufacturers. The musical instrument playing robot is by far the most advanced humanoid robot capable of playing different musical instruments, but its expertise is limited to playing music only. In future we can expect a robot product which can take multiple instructions and perform multi tasking, but till then it is difficult to imagine that robots can replace humans in all our life domains.
