Home Remedy For Stiff Neck

Many adults, especially office workers experience neck pain or stiff neck. This is due to the long hours of sitting by their desks and working on their computers. Having A neck that is stiff and painful is a problem for many reasons. First, it hurts. Nobody would wan to go through their day with a discomfort in their neck. Second, it is just too difficult to do anything. You will have trouble completing simple everyday tasks when you can’t move freely, both your head and shoulders due to a stiff neck.

However, if the pain in your neck feels minor, you may try the following stiff neck remedies on your own.

1. Massage

Massaging can help to reduce the tension in your neck muscles that may be causing the stiffness. On your own, you can do some simple massages. However, we recommend asking another person to massage your neck or visiting a professional therapist for help.

Having a different person massage your neck allows you to relax, something you would not be able to do on your own. On top of that, a partner can reach certain spots that you otherwise would not be able to reach.

2. Ice and heat

Apply some ice or a cold pack to your neck. The ice can help to educe the inflammation that could very likely be causing stiffness and discomfort. Do this a few times a day for a few days to keep the inflammation at bay.

After a couple of days of icing, you should switch to heating. Heat helps to soothe the sore muscles and reduce pain greatly. It is important that you wait for a few days before heating because heating immediately can actually make the inflammation worse than before.

3. Stretch

A stiff neck is very often the result of strained muscles. You can help to reduce and prevent this type muscle strain by doing simple neck stretches a few times a day.

Try slowly rotating your head around in an anti-clockwise direction 15 times and go clockwise for 15 more rolls. This and a few other stretches and exercises can help strengthen the muscles to reduce pain.
