Hire best interior designers in Mumbai

by Shreya Kakkar student of Architecture

Choosing the right style or theme for your home can often be hard. Usually people get it wrong and overdo the theme. This makes their house look like a rotten 1980's show-room reject. Or even worse, end up with home accessories that just don't work together, or stand out like a sore thumb.

So, where to start? If you are starting from scratch and doing a total renovation then you might as well seek professional advice from the best interior designers in Mumbai.

The biggest mistake most home owners make is not willing to hire an interior designer for their residential interior design. However, there are some who hire the designers but don’t know when to allow the designer to take charge. Of course there will be people who give complete rein in the hand of the designer and then rant about it when everything is done.  Both the extremes are wrong!

In order to get the design done properly and to avoid any complications in the end, you must clearly distribute the roles right from the start. Discuss about the control you wish to wield and how much freedom you can allow to the designer. You have to let him know whether he can have his way with the contractors or you need details for everything. This is an important decision to avoid complications and arguments in the end of the project.

Be aware that professionals can also get it wrong. Do your research so that when you speak to someone you have an idea of what styles you like and don't like, thus avoiding being snowballed into something you are unsure about. You can find lots of examples of residential interior design just by searching online, and you should also be able to find a good range of magazines on this popular topic.

Now, this was about when you wish to re-do the place completely. What if you just want to update your existing interior? Will you need a designer then? In my understanding, No! Try small changes first. Try some home accessories like a couple of throw rugs in contrasting colors, new lampshades or even tall side lamps instead of using the overhead lights. Lighting can make a vast difference. Of course, your own personal taste should rule your decisions but it isn't a bad idea to avoid going with current trends which might date very quickly. Instead, go for classic colors and styles that reflect comfort and an inviting atmosphere.

The most vital factor in any residential interior design is space planning.  This is true even when you have a lot of space and when you have a space that is too small. In both ways there is a limitation of the possibilities of a desired residential interior design. Place the furniture in a manner that the room doesn’t look clogged and there is enough passage to move around. Once you have settled on accessories and furniture that work, you can start thinking about the bigger projects like painting a feature wall! Choose your colors wisely. Ensure that they are in sync with the curtains and the furniture of the room.

These are some vital tips to carry out your residential interior design.
