Here's A Creative Idea For Prospective Brides & Grooms During A Pandemic

by DAVIS BROWN PRC Agency

Wedding season has taken a massive hit thanks to the COVID-19 pandemic. But one popular Portland, OR wedding venue has a solution. Portland’s White House, an imposing Colonial Revival mansion in the Irvington neighborhood, is introducing Zoom Weddings that allow up to 8 in-person guests and the potential for dozens of virtual guests thanks to the popular Zoom app, a web-based video conferencing tool that allows users to gather together online. Owner Frank Groff says that this is an alternative to cancelling your wedding plans.

“We’ve gotten a lot of calls from disappointed brides/grooms-to-be whose weddings were cancelled due to social distancing requirements imposed on churches and venues where receptions were planned,” says Groff, who with his partner David Krause renovated the historic treasure to the tune of $1 million when they bought it in 2018. “We are welcoming couples who are open to modifying their guest list to just a few and allowing others from any part of the world to take part in the ceremony via Zoom.”

Groff adds that post-ceremony, the couple and their guests can celebrate the occasion with an intimate stand-up cocktail reception or even a multi-course dinner paired with wines in the formal dining room.

Portland’s White House underwent an extensive remodel of both the main and carriage houses with the intent of restoring it to its former glory. It total, there are 9 large bedrooms, each with an ensuite bath. In addition, the mansion has a grand foyer distinguished by a hand-painted mural and sweeping staircase that leads to the upstairs bedrooms. Also on the main floor is a living room with a grand piano, game room, commercial kitchen, private office and dining room where breakfast is served each morning. Downstairs is an 85-seat ballroom.

Portland’s White House was built for Oregon timber baron Robert Lytle, who spared no expense on its construction. He made it fireproof with metal lath and plaster and tile roofs then carefully installed the very finest materials including Povey Bros. stained glass, known as “The Tiffany of the Northwest.”
