HEPA Air Purifier - A technological evolution at its best

by Neha Rastogi Author

The first purification filter was designed in the 1940's and was used in the Manhattan project for reducing the spread of airborne radioactive contaminants. Commercialization began during the 1950's and the term became a registered trademark and later a generic term associated with highly efficient filters.

Over the years, they have undergone constant modifications to suit the growing demands of air quality in industries like aerospace, pharmaceuticals, hospitals, health care, etc. In modern times, however, most air purifiers are applicable for home and commercial use and are generally used to overcome allergy and asthma.

The HEPA air filter is sought to remove 99.97% of particles from the air that passes through it. Increase in air pollution has globally become a growing concern. HEPA air purifiers have bought a revolution to the world of air purifiers and a lot of positive effects to people suffering from allergies.

Tests have proved that air indoor can be more polluted than the air outside. This may be because of the fact that homes or offices today are virtually sealed to make use of air conditioner or heater more efficient. This stops fresh air to circulate inside. While some pollutants like pollen come from outdoors, some pollutants are created indoors itself. Carbon monoxide, for example, is usually the result of heat combustion produced by furnaces, cigarettes or auto exhaust that enters a building. Cooking vapour is another such example of pollutant created indoors. Another reason people use these machines is to remove room odour.

This revolutionary HEPA air purification technology is used in Kent air purifiers in order to keep you free from air pollutants indoors. It has four stages, the first stage being that of pre-filter. The large and visible particles like pet hair, cobwebs, and dust particles are removed at this stage. Second stage is the activated carbon filter stage, which reduces odour, foul smell, cigarette smoke, oxides of nitrogen, and oxides of Sulphur etc. The third and the most important stage is the anti-bacterial coated HEPA filter, which arrests and reduces microbiological elements present in the atmosphere around you. This stage brings the value-add to the appliance by eliminating the bacterial content in the air. The extremely small pore size of the filter catches and traps pollutants like PM 2.5 and SPM as small as 0.3 microns, with a remarking efficiency of 99.9%. The last stage fulfils the need of an ionizer purifier, which disperses electrically charged ions that get attached to particles in the air. The inbuilt ionizer in the machine helps improve the air quality and makes it fresher.

Air purifiers using such advanced technology; provide us with fresh air keeping us immune from various allergies. It also provides even more efficiency at workplace, homes and offices. The purifiers have evolved not only in their technology but also in their functions. Earlier air purifiers were not advanced enough to indicate the change of filters, unlike the Kent HEPA air purifier. The air purifiers are now well equipped with these additional functions. This brings to the buyers a feeling of confidence so that they feel safe and assured about their health. With the increasing amount of pollutants; their application and usage have expanded and are gaining popularity fast.
