Heathrow Airport Transfer-Your Choices For Travel To Airport
by John Staffan Travel tips writerHeathrow Airport is the largest airport in the UK and is not
only the busiest airport in the UK but in Europe also. No fewer than 68 million
passengers fly from Heathrow every year, which is a shade above the current UK
population of 66.57 million. 1.3 million tonnes of cargo are sent out from
Heathrow every year to 180 worldwide destinations carried by 90 airlines which
fly from Heathrow. There are two main runways and a cross-wind runway, and five
terminals. There are also a wide range of facilities including those for
children and disabled travellers, and for businesses too.
There are several types of Heathrow
Airport transfer including coach services, trains and taxis. The
National Express coach service runs from London Victoria Coach Station and
arrives at one of a number of different stops depending on the terminal. At
only 5.00 it is the cheapest way to get to Heathrow and the fast service will
get you there in 40 minutes, traffic permitting. There is also a stopping
service which takes up to two and a half hours. Coaches leave Victoria every 15
- 60 minutes depending on the type of service.
For terminals 1 - 3, the coach stops at the Central Bus
Station which is a short walk from the check-in which is accessed by
underground walkways. For terminal 4, the coach stops at stops 13 and 14 which
are just outside the terminal. For terminal 5, the coach stops at stops 13 -
16. The bus station is open 24/7 and if you are returning into central London
you can buy tickets in the travel centre from 6.00 am to 10.30 pm. There is a
lift to the underground level and baggage trolleys are available.
Get Heathrow airport
by Train:
The fastest way to get to Heathrow Airport is by train, and
these leave from Paddington every 15
minutes and every 30 minutes after 10 pm. The journey time is just 15 minutes.
For terminals 1, 2, and 3 the station is a ten-minute walk to terminal 1 and 2,
and five minutes to terminal 3. The stations for terminals 4 and 5 are
immediately below the terminals and have lift access. The fares are 22 for a
single ticket and 36 for return, or for first class 30 single and 54 return. If
you are in London you can get Heathrow airport from any station by train
You can also get to Heathrow by tube and this takes about an
hour and costs 6.00 unless you have an Oyster card in which case it varies from
3.10 to 5.10. An Oyster card costs 18 or 13.10 for a Travelcard for one day.
How do
I get from Heathrow to central London?
Of course, all of the above methods of travel are from
central London, but you first have to get to the stations or coach station from
wherever you live, which will usually mean getting to your local station, which
may mean you need a bus to get there, and then when you get into London you may
need to get the tube to the departure point, or of course you could get a taxi,
all of which adds to the cost and the time to get to Heathrow.
Of course, another way to get to Heathrow is to drive there
yourself and park at the airport, and there are various different parking
services on offer. If you are gong abroad for a holiday for two weeks, there
are long stay car parks with a shuttle bus to run you to the terminal. A
typical price for these for a two-week stay is 159.30. You can also have a Meet
and Greet parking service where you park in the short stay Meet and Greet zone
and the company parks your car for you and has it waiting for you on your
return. That cost is 211.70. There is also a Valet Parking service where you
drop your car on the terminal forecourt and the rate for that is 240.70.
There is an even better way to get to and from Heathrow and
that is to use a Heathrow Taxi London
service. You leave your car at home and a luxury chauffeur-driven taxi collects
you and your luggage. You sit back in comfort as the chauffeur takes you to the
terminal. When you return your limo is waiting for you again to take you home.
The best part about it? It only costs around the same as the Meet and Greet or
Valet Parking service. It's a bit of a no-brainer really.
