Healthy Alternatives of the Bleach

by Margaret A. Manager

The home cleaning and clothes washing with bleach is an inexpensive way to maintain the hygiene at home. Unfortunately, although it is very effective against stains and germs, its vapours can irritate the lungs, causing pain in the chest. Some breathing problems may also occur and the aggressive ingredients can irritate the skin. There are many alternatives of the bleach, which can prevent your exposure to chemicals.

Bleach Alternatives

  • Eco bleach

One of the best alternatives of bleach is the green eco bleach. It is a great tool for removing stains and disinfecting. Its ingredients are plant-based and completely biodegradable; it does not contain chlorine and other harmful bleaching substances.

  • Vinegar

It is known for its cleansing properties for many years. The vinegar is now again gaining popularity as it is effective in removing stains and it is not toxic. Apply vinegar on colour fabrics and see how the stain will disappear. To remove rust and scale, mix vinegar with baking soda. The solution is effective to clean the tiles in the bathroom also.

  • Baking soda

Soda is a very effective and inexpensive option for whitening clothes and cleaning surfaces at home, especially if you combine it with vinegar. If you use it for washing, it whitens fabrics and removes stains.

  • Borax

Borax is a relatively safe option for removing stains and mildew. Mix it with water and you will get all-purpose cleaner. Borax has been a major component of the bleach, but now it is replaced by other ingredients. Borax is not completely safe, but you may use small amounts of the products extra carefully.

  • Hydrogen peroxide

This alternative of bleach also has toxic properties, but it is much safer than standard bleach containing chlorine. You may mix it with water and use it to whiten fabrics and clean and disinfect the surfaces.

  • Sunlight

Sun removes stains from white fabrics and destroys germs naturally, without any danger for your health. Colour fabrics, however, may fade, and white fabrics can be damaged and become yellowish if you keep them for a long time in the sun.

  • Lemon juice

Lemon juice may be very useful in the cleaning activities at home. It could be used to remove stains on nails and skin, to remove oil stains from clothing and furniture upholstery. It is a common ingredient in many eco products for home care and if you use it in the washing machine it will whiten and flavour the fabrics.
