HARRY POTTER & THE CHAMBER OF SECRET-BEHIND THE SCENES
You already enjoyed the behind the scenes ofHarry Potter and Sorcerer’s Stone,
didn’t you? Here is the second part, with the amazing response to the
first part. I invite you to read till the end of the article and share
this with another Potterhead. So shall we go straight to the story?
Filming began three days after the release of
the first film. This is the only film that released within a year, from
all of the series. Deathly Hallows part 1 and 2 had released in six
months, but both have been filmed in parallel.
Based on the shortest book in the series, this
is the longest film in the series. (Also the longest book in the
series, Harry Potter and the Order of Phoenix, made the shortest film
out of it.)
Chris Columbus, executive producer and director, advises cinematographer Roger Pratt
to give the film a slightly darker look. Therefore, low light
conditions were used in the studios. The color frames were also slightly
dimmed. These changes continue to darken throughout the series. You may
have noticed this in the WB logo and name as well as in the movie
The duo are considered to be Chris Columbus’
two financially best hits. And his first Home Alone duo can be
considered a success.
Many Harry Potter fans went to see the Scooby-Doo (2002) movie released that year. Do you know why? Watch the trailer of the Harry Potter and Chamber of Secret.
The producers have considered the Chamber of Secret
to be the only one in the film. But in Harry Potter and Deathly Hallows
Part 2 (2011) the secret chamber needed again. Since the studio had
been demolished, they had to rebuild the secret chamber.
Behind the Scenes of Chamber of Secret- Malfoys
Jason Isaacs
(Lucius Malfoy) can be introduced as a newcomer to the story. It is his
own idea to grow his hair that way. He has to keep his head slightly
back to prevent his hair from falling forward. This has made his
character even more proud. Like he looks at everything else under his
nose.
To get a sense of how dirty his character is,
Jason had to revisit all of Tom Felton (drako)’s previous performances.
Also the magic wand that can carry his magic wand is his own idea. He
has been very fond of this magic wand. At one point he was caught trying
to snatch it.
This is edited and reduced article of the original article. If you like to read from the original source you can find the Chamber of Secret using highlighted link below.
Flourish and Blotts used to redecorate the studio used for Olivander’s Wand shop in the first movie.
Chris wants to show the movements of the
basilic like a journey of a serpent. Therefore, handheld cameras are
used for this purpose. At one point, Chris took the cameraman by the
shoulder (like a steering wheel) to shoot as he wanted.
If you compare the book and the movie you will
feel a problem with the size of the basilic snake. Turning to the end
of the sixteenth chapter of the book, Ron and Lockhart have a sentence
like this when they see the skin in the secret chamber. “The creature
that had shed it must have been twenty feet long at least” but Ron says
at the relevant moment in the movie “whatever shed this must be sixty
feet long, or more” This was done to increase the risk and thrill. In
the first film, the serpent released from the zoo cage is about twenty feet long.
It is said that their full size images were used for the people who were stoned by the Basilic attack.
J.K.Rowling has produced a series of instructions for the cast on how to speak Parseltounge.
The camera used by Colin Creevy is the Argus
C3 Matchmatic (35mm) cheap and very popular type of camera that was only
manufactured in the United States from 1939 to 1966.
This is the second and final appearance of Katherine Nicholsan, not as famous as Pansy Parkinson.
Fifty years after the last secret chamber was
opened, Voldemort and Hagrid both appear to have been present at the
time of the shooting, indicating that Tom must have been 66 and Hagrid
63.
Shirley Henderson (Moaning Myrtle) is the
oldest actress to appear as a Hogwarts student. She was 37 years old
when she played that character. And before that you can see her through a
similar character. That was through another popular film, Bridjet
Jone’s Diary (2001). According to her, it contains more scenes of her
crying about her boyfriend in a ladies restroom.
Zoe Wanamaker (Madame Hooch) feels in this
film that the salary is not enough. So she has left. Her dialogue is
given to Professor McGonagall Dame Maggie Smith and the other
characters.
During the production, Emma always brought her
pet Millie with her, but a few days after filming began, Millie passed
away. So the staff prepares a special coffin for Miley. It was adorned
with velvet and had a beautiful necklace called Millie on it. “I do not
think anyone has ever said goodbye like this,” says Emma.
Scenes from Sally Mortemore (Librarian Irma
Pince) have been cut from the film. She can barely be seen in the
background scenes and on the staff table.
Although Crab and Goyl had more film time in
the film, there is no dialogue between the actors they appear in. The
dialogues with Harry, Ron with Draco are narrated by Daniel Radcliffe
and Rupet Grint.
The guard who meets Harry and Ron when they can’t get to the nine-3/4 stage is the same guard in the previous movie.
The forest outside Hogwarts in the book series
is called the “Forbidden Forest”. But in the first and second films it
is used as “Dark Forest”. Correcting this, Voldemort uses the term
“Forbidden Forrest” in his last film (Harry Potter and the Deathly
Hallows: part 2 [2011]).
Thirty-five minutes in the second half of the film, Hermione is missing. After the Basilic attack on her.
Eddie Redmaybe, who plays the Newt Scamander
in Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them (2016), has appeared in an
interview for Tom Riddle character.
It is said that a nurse was called due to the spread of lice among the children during the filming.
During the filming, Dobby’s part was played by a ball mounted on a stick. (Later digitally added Dobby.)
The young Hagrid is represented by Martin
Bayfield. [He appears as Robbie Coltrane’s body double throughout the
series. His height is 6’10 “and he is a former England international
rugby player] voiced by Robbie Coltrane.
Madame Promfre was previously in the film as a
background character. It uses an extra actress. But from here until the
end, Gemma Jones stands up for her character.
The tapestries on the walls of the Gryffindor
Common Room are copies of a sixteenth – century series of “Lady and the
unicorn” now on display at the Cluny Museum in France.
As I said in the previous article, Sorcerer’s
Stone, starred Cruise’s daughter, Eleanor Columbus, as Susan Bones. But
in this movie you can see all four of Chris’ kids. Eleanor Columbus
himself appears as Susan. Brendon Columbus as a boy in the study room,
Violet Columbus as a little girl with some flowers and Isabella Columbus
as a girl in the bookstore.
Jude Law is considered too young to appear as
Lockhart, but he appears as the young Dumbledore in the 2018 release of
Fantastic Beasts: Crimes of Grindelwald.
Behind the Scenes of Chamber of Secret- Flying Ford Anglia
Weasley’s car is a Ford Anglia. It’s the same
colour car that J.K. Rowling used to ride around with his school
friends. She uses that car first for the book and then for the film.
Weasley’s Ford registration number is 7990 TD. It’s actually a real number on a Blue Ford registered in April 1960
They had to destroy fourteen Ford Anglias to make Harry and Ronnie crash into the Whomping Willow.
Written by J.K. Rowling Harry Potter and the
Deathly Hallows, Death Eaters is seriously considering bringing back the
Ford Anglia to save Ron by pushing two Death Eaters against a wall. The
car emerges from the jungle and hides Death Eater under a wall in the
palace. Then she herself thought that it was a very childish idea that
the car had lived in the forbidden forest for so long.
Daniel’s father reads Harry Potter books for
Daniel. So he thinks his father would be better suited to dub Basilic.
He suggested it to director Chris. Dad says he’s very happy with it.
From here I will mention some special events in the Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets along with the time they are. You can also pay attention to these things while watching the film.
Eleventh minute
Remember the floating needle set that spun
automatically in the Burrow house? To set this up realistically, one of
the staff members forcibly brought her mother in and let her sew and had
to film her for several hours.
Fifteenth minute
This time around, it’s at Borgin and Burkes in
Knockturn Alley. You can barely see anything special here. The sixth
part, Half-Blood Prince, has an opal necklace (containing a curse) left
in a showroom to play a special part.
Seventeenth minute
Harry Potter hardcover books can be seen on
bookshelves as Hagrid brings Harry out of the knockturn alley and
Lockhart (Sir Kenneth Branagh) shows his profile to the photographer.
Twenty-first minute
You can barely see this. Lucius Malfoy picks
up a book from Ginny’s caldera. You will notice that he drops back two
travel books insulting second hand books.
Thirty-third minute
A scene from Percy Weasley and Penelope
Clearwater has been cut. (The part where Ginny promises to catch them
kissing and not tell anyone) So the only part of the movie is the “Hello
Percy.Ms.Clearwater” part where Nick sees the two of them coming out of
the Great Hall as if they were headless.
Fifty-fifth minute
During the Quidditch match Harry and Draco
chases after snitch. The music used in this episode is also used in Star
Wars-Attack of the Vlones (2002). Both productions are by John
Williams.
The hour is the nineteenth minute
Crab and Goyle remember the floating cupcake
timeline. Jamie Waylett and Josh Herdman cut their mouths on the hooks
on the fishing rods
One hour and twenty eight minutes
This time Harry is talking to Tom in his
diary, not Daniel Radcliffe’s handwriting. Chris thinks he’s not going
to write like Harry Daniel does. So he’s using some other handwriting
Twenty-two minutes and two hours
In the final scene of the screenplay, Hermione
should hug Harry and Ron. But 11-year-old Emma is too embarrassed to
give a hug to two boys in front of the entire cast. So her savior Cris
changes the script to make it easier for her. So all she has to do is
hug Ron and shake Ron’s hand when he tries to hug her too. You must have
seen that scene in the film. In a recent interview, Emma reveals that
she quickly turned around and left. So that spot in the movie was frozen
for a few seconds. But fans see this stumble as a sign of future
relationship between her and Ron.
Two hours and twenty-five minutes
This time Harry releases Dobby from Malfoy.
Daniel Radcliffe wants to shave his leg when he finds out he doesn’t
have a leg sock.
Two hours and twenty-five minutes
This time Lucius tries to curse Harry. He
mutters “Avada ..” This is the beginning of the curse of death
introduced in the fourth book. This seems like a great foolishness. In
the middle of a school, full of children and teachers, why did you say
this with no way to escape? As Jason Isaac describes in a number of
interviews, the book and the script did not name him a special curse. So
the killing curse in the fourth book he was reading in those days was
the only curse he remembered. So he says it. That being said, Dobby will
turn the panel around and save.
A few extra behind the scene facts from chamber of secrets
Slytherin’s heir builds a fake wall asking him
to write whatever he wants, as the messages on the wall will not allow
the five – hundred – year – old Gloucester Cathedral to be damaged.
In an interview with Alan Cumming in 2008, he
said that he got the role of Lockhart. But when asked about the amount
paid to Rupet Grint, he rejects his character. That’s because he gets
less than the amount a 12 year old gets!!!
