Great Exercises You Can Do When Having Physiotherapy

by Shakil Hossain BLOG

Exercises are good for fitness and general well-being. Everyone regardless of age or gender is encouraged to include some form of exercise in their routine. When you are on physiotherapy, some workouts may be too strenuous for you. Physiotherapist encourages patients only to do exercises that strengthen the core and back muscles in a bid to minimize degeneration. The exercises you do should involve stretches that mobilize your stiff spine and stabilize your muscles.

5 Great Exercises You Can Do When Having Physiotherapy

1. Cobra Twist

This exercise is excellent for strengthening the back and core. You can perform this stretch in the comfort of your home with no more than a yoga mat. It is efficient for reversing the curve of sitting. Simply lie straight on the mat with your abs on the floor and your back facing your ceiling. Slowly push your back up while you straighten your arms on the floor and chest out. Your waist should remain on the floor. Stretch out as much as you can keeping your core engaged and your shoulders pointing out. Maintain the position for 10 seconds and repeat it 3 to 5 times.

2. Walking

Walking is effective and safe for people who are undergoing physiotherapy. It requires no equipment and can be done anywhere. Walking outdoors for 30 minutes, as fast as you can, every day is a good way to improve your health during physiotherapy. You don't need to start with 30 minutes a day, depending on the severity of pain you are feeling, and your current fitness level, you can start with 10 minutes of brisk walking daily and gradually work it up to 30 minutes by adding 2-3 minutes every week. To make walking more interesting, buy a music player and use it to listen to your best songs while you walk. You can also invite a friend to walk with you to make it more interesting. You can download an app for calculating how many steps you take in a day. Some research suggests that 10000 steps a day are ideal for keeping fit. However, intentionally brisk walking for 30 minutes a day is far more efficient. It's a safe option for people undergoing physiotherapy.

You can play your favorite music at home and dance till you get tired. It pumps up your heart rate, improves blood circulation strengthens your muscles and burns calories.

4. Climbing Stairs

Depending on the severity of the pain you are treating, you can add climbing the stairs to your workout routine. Going up and down as fast as you can for as many reps as possible is a good way to tone up your muscles and stay fit while undergoing physiotherapy. You can start with five repetitions and slowly work your way up as your fitness level increases.
