Gokyo Lake Trek in Everest, Nepal

by Suman Aryal Travel/Tourism

Gokyo Lake Trek is an exciting trek that takes you to the world's highest fresh water lakes. The trek also gives you the chance to see the mighty Himalayas. In addition, you get to learn a bit about the culture of the local people.

This trip is ideal for those who are new to the hiking scene or for those who are just looking for a moderate trek with breath-taking scenery. The best time to do this trek is in spring and autumn. This is because the season is clear and sunny. It also offers to see a snowy landscape and wild animals.

Despite the fact that this is a moderate trek, you don't have to be a technical expert to do it. You can expect a 5-7 hour hike each day. You can go on this trek solo or in a group. If you're traveling with a group, you'll have a trekking guide who will take care of everything for you. Your guide may even pre-book accommodations for you, saving you the headache of rearranging your itinerary when you arrive in the valley.

Few More Information about Gokyo Lake Trek

Gokyo Lake Trek is one of the most spectacular trekking routes in the Everest region. It leads to the home of legendary Sherpa people and awe-inspiring views of the Khumbu Mountains. The Gokyo lakes trek route is less crowded than the traditional Everest base camp trek and is perfect for a more adventurous trekking experience.

The Gokyo Lake Trek begins with an early morning flight to Lukla, the gateway to the Khumbu region. Once in Lukla, trekkers can purchase a local area permit. A porter guides the trekkers, identifying peaks and monasteries.

After two days of trekking upward, the trekkers reach Namche Bazaar, a bustling market of the Khumbu region. From there, the trekkers can acclimatize and continue hiking higher.

The Gokyo lake trek requires careful planning and a good amount of preparation. The trek offers spectacular views of Everest, Makalu, and Cho Oyu.

The Gokyo lake trek is not suitable for those who suffer from altitude sickness. It is also prone to weather disruptions.

Route to Gokyo Ri

The Gokyo Ri trek offers one of the best views of Mount Everest and the surrounding Himalayan ranges.

One can start the Gokyo Ri trek from Lukla. This route is less crowded than the Everest Base Camp Short trek. You can fly from Kathmandu to Lukla.

You can choose a trek with a private guide. He will follow you to coordinate the destination. Depending on the level of service, the cost will vary.

If you don't have enough time to trek to Everest base camp, Gokyo Ri Trek is a great option. In fact, some trekkers even include it in their EBC trips.

Several lakes lie between the Gokyo village and the Gokyo Ri. These are beautiful glacier lakes. While trekking to the lakes, you can also visit schools and museums.

The best time to trek to Gokyo is in the spring/autumn. But, in order to climb the Gokyo peak, you need to acclimatize your body.
