getting more powerful

by Yolanda Zhao rs2account
All the numbers are arbitrary, as witnessed by the recent squish.  Still, there was a fair amount of concern that people would be put off by having the little numbers drop--we like to feel we're constantly getting more powerful, and the squish took away from that.  Imagine if they turned around and said "your level 100 characters are now level 25."  No real change, but it would feel like we were suddenly diminished cheap runescape accounts. The main advantage to heroic heirlooms is that with the guarantees you can farm more of them. But if you can get what you need from normal, it's not a huge difference. They're the same at 100, and with the squish the relative power difference until then is almost unnoticeable.

(Well, this would be a perfect example if they'd just done the "divide everything by 10" idea that was initially mentioned...I think they actually flattened out the power curve too, which is why they had to buy rs gold buff us in older areas, but still: we did not become less powerful, but some folks didn't like seeing their numbers shrink.Any time people typed "/g ding!" in guild chat I would spam them with my congrats macro full of raid markers.  If you need attention for every little level beyond what the achievement broadcasts do, then you deserve all the congrats spam I send your way.

For another example, there's all the fuss some people have raised over the last two expansions being only 5 levels instead of 10.  If runescape had exactly the same amount of content as it will, but they'd called our increase in power 5 levels, there'd be those same complaints.  We expect buy runescape accounts on RS shop that 10 levels of content is better than 5, even if there's no actual difference. During Vanilla, the last 5-10 levels could be very time consuming, especially if you were working to keep your trade skills up as you went.  In those days there was no XP for harvesting a node, and more than a little need to hit up several zones to gain just one level.  Two weeks might be high for some people, but if you had a job and kids in those days, I totally believe it.  I had the job but not the kids, and it doesn't sound far fetched to me.
