Teaching
Courses in India
For
pursuing a career in the field of teaching in India, aspirants need to qualify
various examinations and attain different qualifications in accordance with the
level of teaching they wish to join. For instance; Nursery Teachers Training
(NTT) course is required to become eligible for teaching the pre-school
(nursery) level kids. Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) degree is popular among
aspirants to become a teacher at school level. If you want to join the
institutions of higher studies such as colleges and universities, University
Grants Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET) is the option.
National
Eligibility Test
The
Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) conducts NET on behalf of the
University Grants Commission (UGC) to help colleges and universities recruit post-graduate
candidates for the posts of Assistant Professor and for the award of Junior
Research Fellowship (JRF). The exam covers all subjects except science and
engineering subjects. Science and engineering students have alternative; UGC-CSIR
NET which is a joint effort of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research
(CSIR) and UGC.
NET
Structure
National
Eligibility Test is structured to assess candidates on the basis of:
- Teaching and Research Aptitude
- Subject Knowledge (the subject of candidate’s post-graduation)
Paper I includes
questions on teaching and research aptitude. Candidate need to attempt 50
objective type questions in 75 minutes.
Paper II also
includes 50 objective type questions which carry 2 marks each. The time provided
for this paper is 75 minutes. It is a subject-based paper.
Paper III also asks
questions from subject of post-graduation. Candidates are required to attempt
75 objective type questions in 150 minutes.
The
exam is conducted offline.
