Friendly Places For Young Jewish Travelers

by Kosher River Cruise Kosher Tour Operator
"Traveling is the best form of education" is a popular notion among many globetrotters. Indeed, they have a valid point. There are lessons that can be learned only when you explore the world. Lessons no classroom in the world would even dare speak of. A city or a people's history, for instance, is best learned by immersing one's self in the place and its culture.

A lot of people tend to wait until they are in their twilight years to go out and travel. After all, if they have been responsible in life and in finances, they'll have all the time and money in the world to do as they please. Plenty of Jews are just the same—they only entertain the thought of going on a Jewish vacation once they retire.

That is not to say that Jews in their youth should not go out and travel. Some may argue that there are several advantages to seeing the world as a young person. It allows them to grow independent, gain a better perspective of life, and be more understanding of other cultures at an earlier age.

Jews that like traveling often bump into challenges—especially if they are strictly keeping kosher. But there are some places around the world that young Jewish travelers can start out in that will help make their first adventures easier.

Prague, Czech Republic

The Jewish community of Prague is one of the most famous and storied in Europe. Its origins even date back to the 10th century. The quarter is filled with famous sites such as the Old-New Synagogue, the oldest active synagogue in Europe. Though the population of the community itself has gotten smaller over the years, the Jewish representation remains very vibrant. Their Chabad house has been active since the 1970s and there are plenty of kosher restaurants that dot the city. Indeed, it is one of the best places for a young, first-time Jewish traveler.

Ho Chi Minh, Vietnam

It may come as a surprise to some, but Ho Chi Minh City has quite a small but dynamic Jewish community that is a good fit for young adults. Jewish students of various nationalities are always welcome to the Ho Chi Minh Chabad house. The center provides regular Shabbat and holiday services as well as free kosher meals. Vietnam is also a great spot for travelers who want to save a bit on travel expenses -- Southeast Asian countries are well-known for their affordability.

These are but a few of the towns and cities that young traveling Jews can head to for an easier start to their first  Jewish vacation. In time, be it through their own solo trips or with kosher cruises or tours, they'll come to discover more amazing destinations that will help them learn more about their world.
