Foster + Partners Unveils Vietnam's First Township Masterplan

Masterise Homes has selected Foster + Partners as Architectural Advisors for the construction of The Global City, an all-inclusive neighborhood in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, and the first of its kind for the architecture firm in the nation. The firm will develop innovative and environmentally friendly architectural solutions for a fully integrated master plan with a variety of facilities, residential units, and links to highways, major roads, and metro lines.

The 117.4-hectare project is located in Thu Duc City's An Phu ward, which has strong connectivity to surrounding districts. Low - and high apartments, villas, social housing, schools, medical and administrative facilities, a 125,000-square-meter shopping mall, and other amenities will be included in the project, ensuring a diverse and mixed-use community. The residential buildings' scale, material selection, and design are all influenced by Ho Chi Minh City's vernacular style, evoking local streets and complimenting the city's existing palette.

The office linked the buildings with a range of flexible, landscaped public spaces to create a "holistic and sustainable vision for the future" to achieve a balance between nature and human wellbeing in an urban context. From the northern to the southern periphery of the land, a core green spine and two nearby streams will run. Each of the five neighborhoods will have its personality, tailored to its residents' needs. The center boulevard, which also functions as a public park, will be home to the majority of the high-rise residential complexes. Pedestrian bridges connect the boulevard to the neighboring neighborhoods.

A design competition to renovate Stockholm's central station, Sweden's main transit hub, was won earlier this year by an integrated team led by Foster + Partners in partnership with Marge Arkitekter. The winning design intends to integrate many forms of transportation into a single center, prioritize pedestrian circulation, and create a new mixed-use urban district with old and new architecture.
