Ford Provides Cheaper Gas Option For F150 Owners

by Fusion 360 Studios Digital Marketing Specialists

Ford recently gave word that their 2016 rendition of the F150 will have the option to be powered by propane, a byproduct of natural gas. This is good news for those who know the benefits of using compressed natural gas (CNG). Although the propane truck option costs a little more, it may be a worthy investment in the long run.

The Ford F150 propane package costs an additional $315 and adds improved valves and valve seats along with the CNG option. After the initial engine prep, the fuel tanks, fuel lines and unique fuel injectors for can run from $7,500 to $9,500 depending on the tank. However, for those set on keeping the environment clean in Utah and across the country, this may be an extra cost worth paying.

Propane gas was approved as clean fuel in the 1990 Clean Air act. It acts as a substitute for the environment-harming gasoline and reduces greenhouse gasses. According to George Washington University, American drivers average about 37 miles a day. With this high level of driving, it is important to think about how it impacts the environment.

In addition to cleaner air, propane gas also helps to keep jobs in our country. The gas is American-made and nearly 50,000 workers in Utah and across the United States are employed in its production, transportation, and distribution, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. The new Ford F150 could help boost the economy and provide more jobs for Americans.

Not only this, but CNG is also significantly cheaper. It sells on average at about $2.11 per gallon as of April 30, 2015 and can even sell for as low as $1.00. Regular fuel goes for $2.58 per gallon and diesel fuel sells for $2.81 per gallon. Over time, the Ford F150 could save Utah drivers and others around the U.S. a notable amount of money because of the new natural gas feature.

This is not the first time that Ford has provided a propane option for the F150. In 2014 they offered a conversion kit for the 3.7-liter V6. After a survey with propane-using customers, Ford concluded that buyers wanted a similar option for the F150 5.0-liter engine.

The new propane vehicle is likely to be a success based on the fact that since 2009 Ford has sold more than 57,000 propane-fueled vehicles. This is seven times more than the automakers in Utah and every other U.S. state combined. Other car companies are likewise hopping on the CNG bandwagon, hoping to increase sales.
