Football Coaching Classes are Helping Bangalore Get Back to an Active Life

by South United Football Club South United Football Club
With the COVID-19 pandemic and the lockdown, the past year and a half has been challenging for everyone. People have been forced to stay at home or indoors, resulting in very little physical activity. From exercising or walking around for at least an hour a day, we have moved to getting almost everything done online from our computers or phones. The time that students used to spend walking to school, playing with their friends, running around during breaks, or engaging in a sport or any kind of physical movement has reduced drastically.

South United, however, started online classes during the pandemic, allowing children to practice football even at home. During this time, the World Health Organization (WHO) stressed on the fact that regular physical activity is necessary throughout the pandemic through its #BeActive campaign. South United’s coaches came up with innovative fun games to give children the chance to play regularly, even in smaller areas or inside their houses. This garnered participation from over 70 kids.

The World Health Organization (WHO) recommends at least 60 minutes a day of moderate to vigorous-intensity physical activity, including exercises that strengthen muscle and bone at least 3 days per week. It is also needed for the body to prevent, fight, and recover from infections. They have even linked the same to one’s mental health, which has also been very crucial during this pandemic.

As life goes back to normal slowly, with schools and offices reopening in different areas, getting students to be active and on the field again is equally important. South United has resumed on-field football coaching classes in Bangalore at a state-of-the-art facility in the heart of the city. With sessions taking place thrice a week, students from the ages of 5 to 16 years are participating in the programme. Going back to a regular lifestyle and being active is a necessity, especially when students and adults alike need to build their immunity.

The students are thrilled to get back on the field, and the parents are equally happy to see their children playing more often. Parent Shariqa Anjum, too, said, “My son, Aman, has always been passionate about football, and in a country like India where football has always taken a little side-step, it was difficult for me to find a place for him where he can exercise his love and passion for football. After joining the classes, my son came back happy, and that was all that mattered to me. He was happy at home. He enjoys his game and looks forward to coming here. This is one of those cases where I find joy in my son’s eyes.”

Making safety the priority, all COVID-19 protocols are followed at the venue at all times. Equipment, surfaces, and other high-contact areas are sanitized regularly, and everyone who enters the facility has their oxygen and temperature levels checked. Masks are compulsory, and Social Distancing norms are also maintained. Every child or adult who comes to the venue knows that the Academy is a safe place to visit.

South United strives to promote football at the grassroots level, making the sport available for all. Equipped with 11-a-side, 6-a-side, and 3-a-side pitches, a jogging track, and multiple additional facilities, it is certainly the best football academy in the city. The staff, both on and off the field, are committed to providing exceptional football coaching classes in Bangalore for girls and boys of all age groups.
