Follow these tips for maintaining healthy blood sugar levels

You can choose complex carbs to dodge high blood sugar levels. Some examples of complex carbs include whole grains, fruits, and vegetables.

Regular exercise helps the body use insulin more effectively. It allows glucose to be taken up by the cells more efficiently. It also reduces insulin resistance, a common problem faced by people with type 2 diabetes. So, incorporate both aerobic exercise and strength training into your exercise routine. Both are equally beneficial for regulating your blood sugar levels.

  1. Stay hydrated

When the body is dehydrated, blood sugar levels can rise. This may further lead to hyperglycaemia. Therefore, drink enough water to prevent this and stabilise blood sugar levels. Drink water throughout the day, even if you do not feel thirsty. However, sugary drinks, such as soda, aerated drinks, and fruit juice, should be limited or avoided. If you consume them, keep your blood glucose test strips handy for a quick check.

  1. Get enough sleep

Lack of sleep often leads to insulin resistance and high blood sugar levels. When the body is sleep-deprived, it produces more cortisol. This is a stress hormone that increases blood sugar levels considerably. Hence, see that you get enough sleep, around seven to nine hours each night. Develop healthy sleeping habits by establishing a regular sleep schedule and avoiding electronics before bedtime. These simple practices improve the quality of your sleep.
