Like any other watercrafts, float tubes come with a set of pros and cons. Analyzing the pros and the cons, expert rods have some float tube fishing tips for the fresh anglers to explore more of a still river or a lake. If you want to ensure on-water success, keep your eyes glued to this guide.

Float Tube Fishing: 10 Expert-Backed Tips

  1. Take everything you need
Make sure you’ve packed everything you need before heading out to the water. Along with the fishing gear and equipment, bring enough drinking water and food to survive and to stay hydrated. It’s really challenging to get back to the shore if you forget any essential like sun hat or a water bottle. One more thing- learn some basic float tube troubleshooting to take your experience to the next level.

  2. Wear Sunscreen and Insect repellant
Being exposed in the sun for a long time can harm your skin. Avoid getting sunburn and negative effects of ultraviolet rays by putting on a waterproof sunscreen.
Blackwater and still rivers are full of disease carrying mosquitoes and insects. So, consider using some insect repellant to keep these insects away from you.

  3. Don’t forget to wear waders
Wearing a pair of waders is necessary to keep yourself dry and comfortable. Neoprene-style waders are very durable and able to keep you warm for a long term. Waders can be the great protection against hypothermia and insects.
Before choosing a pair of waders, keep the size and material in mind according to the season and your needs.

  4. Dress properly
Not any strict dress code is recommended for float tube fishing but your on-water success may depend on tour dree code. Make spotting fish easier and cut off the sun’s glare by wearing a pair of polarized sunglasses.
Consider your attribute depending on the weather. Put on extra layers of clothes in winter and a rain gear in the rainy season.

  5. Be spotted easily
Make sure you’re clearly visible on the water. No fear! Other motor boards won’t run over you. The purpose is to be spotted by the other fishermen.
For this, use a bright and colorful float tube or raise an eye-catching flag behind you. If your watercraft is dark colored, consider wearing bright colored outfit.

  6. Choose the right fishing tackle
Fishing from a float tube and fishing from a kayak or other watercraft are totally different things. In float tubes, bringing a lot of fishing gear is not possible and generally you won’t have enough room. They don’t also provide enough storage capacity like other large fishing boats. So, organizing your fishing tackle to make sure that you didn’t leave anything behind.

  7. Select the right fly and lures
Two or more fly boxes can easily fit in your float tube if you have a large one. Remember the files and lures you load should match the targeted species. Among the worms, krill, shrimp, and many more, choose your favorite one. My suggestion is to experiment all to find the best one. Don’t feel hesitant to consult with the veteran rods.

  8. Choose the right rod and reel
As you know fishing rods come in different sizes and lengths. Which one should you choose? Well, check for some guidelines to reduce your confusion. Rods that length from nine to twelve feet are ideal for catching bigger fishes.
As like rods, reels come with a variety. For float tube fishing, single action or level wind reels can be the best pick.

  9. Bring razor-sharp hooks
Stop your catches from swimming away with high-quality razor-sharp hooks. Choosing hooks is pretty simple. Smaller hooks for smaller fishes and larger hooks for larger fishes.

  10. Stay close and keep eyes on clock
Unlike other watercrafts, float tubes cover less water. So, staying close to the shore is recommended to return safely to the shore in case of emergencies.
If you’re fishing in the afternoon, keep your eyes on your watch. Try to get back to the shore before it’s dark.

Hopefully, these expert-backed float tube fishing tips will make your trip easier and safe. Do not feel bad to take advice from the experts. Always try to take safety cautions into account to avoid any unwanted incidents.
