FanFight Fantasy Cricket Preview: CSK vs KKR Match 23 | IPL 2019
by FanFight F. FanFight - Play Fantasy Cricket
CSK vs KKR: Five Indian Premier League titles between them & a total of 176 IPL wins. Chennai Super Kings vs Kolkata Knight Riders is undoubtedly one of the fixtures to watch out for. Both teams have won 4 games so far & barring the net run-rate there’s very little to choose between these two sides. While KKR have relied heavily on Andre Russell to finish games for them, CSK’s tweakers have been their major match-winners this season. It’s the battle between the Kings & the Knights. Who’ll reign supreme?
Just when you thought Kolkata’s side was workable and the only major threat would be the big Caribbean, Chris Lynn & Sunil Narine demolished the Rajasthan Royals with the utmost of ease. They put on 91 in just 8.3 overs. Harry Gurney was introduced in the previous game & he went on to win the man of the match award for his miserly 2/25. Evidently, KKR have the most balanced side in the league. However, if one team were chosen to get the Knights back to normalcy, it would be MS Dhoni’s yellow brigade.
How do CSK do it every year? They’ve got experienced players in their line-up, a couple of young blokes who chip in & the ever-reliable MS Dhoni. Deepak Chahar tried to bowl the “back of the hand” slower one in the previous game against KXIP & ended up bowling two waist height no-balls. He conceded 8 when runs off them & there came MS Dhoni to have a discussion with his pacer.
You’ll never see Dhoni animated. In this case, he did have a stone-cold look & the message was passed on. Chahar’s next 5 deliveries were all yorkers & he ended up conceding almost nothing of the remainder of the over. That’s MS Dhoni for you. Simple, brilliant & extremely competitive. At Chepauk, CSK always seem to choke their opponents to a locked submission & are victors more often than not. Can KKR pummel through? They’ve certainly got the quality.

When: 9th April 2019
Where: MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chepauk, Chennai
Kick-Off Time: 8:00 PM IST
The last time these two teams met, Shubman Gill and Dinesh Karthik put on an 83-run partnership to guide KKR home. The game was played at the Eden Garden. At Chepauk, Andre Russell scored 88 off 36 deliveries & Chennai’s Sam Billings scored a 23-ball 56 to win the game for CSK. Chennai successfully chased 203 in 19.5 overs.
Both teams have played 21 games & Chennai have won on 12 occasions. At MA Chidambaram Stadium, the record betters for them with a 6 games to 2 margin.
The pitch at Chepauk this year isn’t easy to bat. Faf Du Plessis batted beautifully in the last game. The South African skipper picked the right deliveries to go big & that’s one mantra every batsman has to adhere to. Especially on this slow track. Teams batting first have won most of the games at this venue. An astonishing 32 times in 52 games.
KKR’s winning percentage when they’ve won the toss & decided to chase is a phenomenal 64%. They’ve won 18 games batting second since May 7, 2015. However, when asked to bat first they’ve won only 8 games out of 21. At Chepauk, the team that wins the toss eventually decides to bat first. Will Russell’s hitting prowess come in handy when they bat first? Or will CSK find a way out, like they always do?
Average 1st innings score at Chepauk: 164
Highest total here: 246/5 by CSK vs RR
Both teams are expected to retain the same playing XI’s. CSK have an abundance of quality in their line-up. Their three tweakers are doing the most damage. Harbhajan Singh, Imran Tahir & Ravindra Jadeja have conceded 5.38, 5.58 & 5.93 runs-per-over respectively this year. Now those are mind-boggling numbers.
Chris Lynn seems to struggle against the left-arm tweakers. Against Jadeja, the dashing right-handed batsman has scored only 7 runs in 13 balls & has been dismissed once. Will MS Dhoni introduce Jadeja in the powerplay?
