Explore Popular Attractions with Cheap Holidays to Marrakech

by Amanda Sutcliffe Travel Deals

A cultural delight of Morocco, Marrakech is sometimes called the 'Red City' or 'Daughter of the Desert'. This Moroccan city has been visited by plenty of tourists since the 1960s and it continues to attract more than two million tourists every year. A visit to Marrakech would give you the opportunity to witness its architectural wonders and beautiful gardens. You'd also get to witness traditional Moroccan palaces or houses called 'riads' that have an interior garden or courtyard. Many of the riads in this part of the world have been transformed into hotels or resorts that provide luxurious stays to the foreign tourists.

From the month of December to February, this Moroccan city experiences pleasant daytime temperatures, which fall dramatically at night. Despite the unfriendly fluctuations in weather and the rains of December, tourists continue to visit the city in large numbers during this period. Even the extremely hot summer from June to August draws plenty of tourists. Spring from March to May offers pleasant climatic conditions that are ideal for sightseeing and other outdoor activities. However, the best time to enjoy your Marrakech holidays would be the autumn season from September to November, when the region experiences a drop in temperatures and tourist crowds.

The Djemaa El Fna is an excellent place to visit as this large and immensely popular square plays an important role in the life of the locals. It is a vibrant hub of various stalls, musicians, fortune-tellers, and snake charmers. You can watch the entire place and its crowds from any of the rooftop cafes and restaurants nearby. A trip to the Koutoubia Mosque during your cheap holidays to Marrakech would give you some interesting insights into the Almohad architecture. If you are a non-Muslim, you'll not be allowed to enter the mosque.

Constructed in the 16th century by the Saadian rulers, the Medersa Ben Youssef is another attraction worth visiting. It is Morocco's largest theological college and has an Islamic architecture with small internal courtyards and a series of connected rooms. You can also visit Dar Si Said Museum of Moroccan Arts and Crafts during your cheap Marrakech holidays to explore an excellent collection of Berber jewellery, artefacts, and other items. A good place to escape the hustle-bustle of crowded marketplaces and enjoy some serenity would be Manara Gardens. It was built in the 19th century and has vast expanses of olive groves and a large pool.

You can also visit the Imlil village if you're looking for some serenity. The mountain village houses a restored fortress, where you can enjoy a cup of coffee or tea and unwind amidst the enchanting rural sceneries. While on your sightseeing tour, you can also explore the Majorelle Gardens, which is home to beautiful palms, cacti, and ferns. It was the property of Jacques Majorelle, a renowned French painter who had arrived in the city for health reasons and became famous for his paintings that depicted Moroccan life. After his death in the year 1962, the property was bought by Yves Saint Laurent, a French fashion designer.
