Explore and Develop the leader in you

We an individual tend to learn and develop at our own pace. The people who are at the senior position in the company are too slow in developing their leadership qualities and facing new challenges. The corporate calendar and the evaluation of performance keep them so in tacked that they failed to realize the actual potential in themselves. There are some ways that can speed up the growth of the emerging leaders. 

The first one is the experience. Experience teaches a person. As said and believed by many that leading is learned by doing. People try to learn leading from reading books, talking and discussing about it, taking special classes in leading, and debating it on various forums but all those of no use. These are no replacement of doing it in actual. You might fail but practice makes a man perfect. Talking and reading won’t make a difference. It is always good to learn from the experience. If you think someone in your company is worth being a leader then you have to let go of some of the responsibility on him/her. Give it a chance and take some risks. Ask your emerging leaders to give guidance to a group of people and take an initiative any aspect.

You can be the one to show him/her just the way and let me create his own map. Once to know the capability of an individual and this result has shown better from you have expected out of him, you have already tested their ability to go after your orders. You have to make sure that your trainees understand the purpose and outcomes that are expected from their initiatives. This way it will help them to explore and develop tolerance and finally they will gradually learn to react in the situation of uncertainty.

In the early stages of leadership development you should give them the decision making power. Ask various questions that challenge the thinking of the person. This way it will encourage the progress of different frames, options, and alternative options. Make sure that the leaders themselves are taking the hold of the decisions for the initiatives they have taken. This doesn’t mean that you cannot oppose the wrong or bad decision. Being a coach yourself you have to keep certain things in your mind that you are developing a leader. That brings into account a few things. You should help them to take the decisions, initiatives, and let them execute it. Ultimately they will learn from their own decisions.

Give new challenges in a short period of time. The aim is to give them maximum exposure in the short period of time. This way they will learn to set their direction, motivate their resources, and lead the execution. They will learn to implement their strategies in the limited period of time and this will help them to figure out their time management. They will learn to execute things on time and slowly will learn the importance of time. There is no benefit in doing the task without the time boundation.

There are people around you that possess the quality of being a leader. Now, it becomes your responsibility to develop the leader in them.
