Veritas offers a certification which certifies the skills required to administer the UNIX/LINUX software. Administration of Veritas InfoScale Availability 7.1 for UNIX/Linux. The details of the certification based on these skills has been discussed below in this article.

 

Introduction:

The VCS-256 exam is designed to certify the skills and knowledge of the individuals which they required to accomplish the technical tasks of LINUX/UNIX. The technical knowledge about core elements and core factors of administration such as “installation, configuration, management, deployment and basic troubleshooting” are measured in this exam. the exam covers all the core topics and objectives based on LINUX/UNIX administration to ensure that respective candidates have all the required skills and abilities to successfully operate and achieve the tasks of this software.

 

The VCS-256 exam has a duration of 2 hours in and the length of exam varies in between 75-85 number of questions. The exam is offered in English language only. To pass this exam, the candidates need to secure 67% marks. The total exam price for this exam is around $225 USD.

 

VCS-256 successful candidates of this exam will be recognized as the “Veritas Certified Specialist (VCS)’ certification which is the requirement for “Veritas Certified Professional (VCP)” certification in Storage management and High Availability for UNIX.

 

Preparation Options:

The candidates will be able to solve the VCS-256 exam only if they have completed the suggested training courses for this exam. Those candidates who have not taken any training course for the VCS-256 exam are recommended to first complete these training courses in person or with Virtual Academy, Virtual Classroom training. The training courses recommended and suggested by Veritas to prepare for VCS-256 exam are: “Veritas Infoscale Availability 7.1 for UNIX/LINUX – Administration (ILT/VA), Veritas Infoscale Availability 7.1 for UNIX/Linux – Advanced Administration I (ILT/VA), and Veritas Infoscale Availability 7.1 for UNIX/Linux – Advanced Administration II (ILT/VA)”. Once the candidates have completed the courses they are required to practice the questions provided by the vendor for better understanding and preparation.

 

Additional Study Guides:

For increased passing chances the candidates are required to go through the study guides based on additional topics related to Linux/UNIX administration. These study guides are also available at Veritas official website with titles such as “UNIX/Linux system and network administration, Storage virtualization and high availability concepts, Veritas InfoScale 7.1 Release Notes” and many more study guides on relevant topics and skills which are measured in this certification.
