Equipment and Accessories Every Photographer Should Have

by Grecy Charls Blogger

It does not matter if you are newbie or an experienced photographer there are some essential materials that you need to put into your bag at all times. Effective preparation means you will not miss some shots that would have been a perfect entry for different photo competitions.

With this in mind this article puts together some items that you need to have in your bag. These items will give you an added advantage when you are shooting for different free photo contests. It will also give you an opportunity to always be ready for different scenarios.

Rubber lens caps

It does not matter which photography genre, ensuring your camera lens is safe should be a priority. If you have an expensive lens kit then you need to invest in rubber lens caps. Rubber lens caps prevent dust, water and dirt from getting into your camera. This is because they have a tight seal on the lens which blocks all these elements.

Rubber lens caps come in different sizes for different lens sizes.  Micro lens caps fit 54-76mm lens. On the other hand, Magnum lens caps are perfect for 72mm -122mm lens. Because of their rubber material they can stretch and fit on the front and back of the lens. This makes it safer for you when you are travelling while taking photos for different photo competitions.

Replacement camera straps

Neck straps that come with big cameras are not usually designed for comfort. When you are in a lengthy shoot for your free photo contests entries they can be absolutely painful. You can avoid this by getting the camera off your neck by getting other alternative straps. For instance, you can get straps which can be worn from the shoulder to hip which balances the weight across your body. They come in different designs and are largely dependent on how much or what type of support you might require. If you prefer wearing straps on your neck you can consider versatile straps that have a quick connecting handgrip and tethered wrist cuffs.  You can also get hand straps that have padded attachments which can be used without battery grips.

Tripods

Tripods help hold your camera while at the same time keeping it still so that you can take photos.  Avoid using cheap tripods as most low priced tripods are usually of bad quality. It is worth putting in more money for a tripod that will be sturdy and can keep your camera still even in a breeze.

It is important to use a tripod that extends to your eye level while at the same time allowing you to shoot close to the ground as well. This will increase flexibility as you search for the perfect angle for your shot. For quick deployment you can clip locks on the legs. However twist locks take up less room and are much better when you are carrying tripods in the field. Aluminium tripods are considered sturdier compared to carbon tripods. However they are heavier to carry.
