Effective Tips On How To Grow An Audience As A New Author

by Grecy Charls Blogger

Have you recently published your new book? Or perhaps you have just opened a new website? These are exciting first steps that usually characterize the initial years of one’s writing career. Many new authors believe that they have something special to share with the world and hence they are keen on expanding their audience. When starting out, this process can be quite slow or even stagnant. Here are some amazing tips on how to quickly grow an audience as a new author:

1. Start your own mailing list

As a new author, it is important for you to create a mailing list where your readers will get to access your latest content and learn more about your previous projects. Technology has made it quite affordable for new authors to have mailing lists since it can easily be distributed via email. When you have a robust mailing list, you will find it easier to connect and engage with your readers in a personal way.

2. Participate in writing competitions

Are there fun and creative writing competitions taking place in your local area? Be sure to sign up for these free writing contests and create a stellar submission which will draw the attention of the sponsors and judges. Often times, the winning submission in free writing contests is usually circulated far and wide so that more people can get to see the talent displayed by the top competitor. By participating in writing contests, you will be broadening your readership and attracting more people to get to know you and interact with your work as an author.

3. Utilize social media

There is no better way for new authors to engage with the online community except through social media. It is extremely important for new authors to have an active online space which allows them access to an unlimited audience of prospective readers. You could do Twitter threads or Facebook posts giving a sneak peek of some of your works. Furthermore, you can also engage the social media space by being part of online writing groups that are formed on various platforms with the intention of bringing together authors and readers.

4. Get features on blogs, magazines and podcasts

Magazines, podcasts and blogs are constantly looking for new talent to showcase on their platforms. So, rather than waiting for them to approach you, why not take the initiative and reach out to them? You could do this via social media or even through sending a formal email to the publisher or producer. There is absolutely no harm in trying your luck and the best part is that even if they decline your offer initially, there is still a chance that they might decide to get in touch with you in future.

5. Create more content

This is a commonly overlooked method of growing an audience as a new author. The truth is that the more you write, the more people will be attracted to read your work. Hence, you should be keen to create blogs, articles and even e-books on a regular basis so that more people are compelled to read and engage with your work.
