Eco Friendly Painting Solutions For Nature Lovers

by Sachin S. Social Media
Green does not necessarily just have to be a color in the paint world anymore. In fact green has been given a much greater dimension and meaning by the introduction of eco-friendly paints by a number of paint manufacturers. The reason for the popularity and evolution of paint into the Green paint space has everything to do with the fact that more and more people are becoming conscious of the environment and making choices that are friendlier and less harmful for the surroundings.

In the first instance, in trying to understand the difference between regular paint and eco friendly paint, we’ve got to make a note of how to go about differentiating.

Interior Wall Paints

Typically speaking, regular paint contains a number of volatile organic compounds in the form of plasticizers, adhesives, pigments and solvents etc. These compounds, upon application of the paint can escape into the environment lead to exposure of hazardous air pollutants. In the outside, they blend with the air and lead to smog.

Paints with low VOC can be termed as eco-friendly and in saying so the lower the content of VOC’s the more environmentally friendly the paint is. There are also premium grade zero VOC paints available as well as VOC free colorants, which are absolutely devoid of harmful toxic biocides.

There are a number of organizations such as Green Seal, Green Guard and EcoLabel that test paints and rate them for their eco-friendliness.

Another option and in all trueness, the most eco-friendly paint available in the market is Casein paint. The ingredients of these paints are mil protein, lime and non-toxic pigments. Only problem with these paints is that they are high maintenance and not as durable as some of the other options.

When looking to choose eco-friendly interior paints for ones’ home or any other property there are a few guidelines that can be kept in mind.

Interior Wall Paints

-One of the things to do is to make sure that the label of the paint is read and understood clearly. A low VOC paint should only contain g/l less than 50 before tinting and zero VOC paint should be less than 5.
-Oil based alkyd paints typically contain more VOC so as opposed to this oil based latex paints are a better choice.
-Glossy paints have more VOC content as opposed to paints with flatter sheen.
-Also, lighter colors tend to have lower VOC cause lesser tinting is required.

Choosing paint can be a conscious decision that can be taken bearing all these factors in mind. In the end, cost is also a consideration and has to be regarded. That being said, the goal should be to make the most aware choice in the given circumstances and the available means.
