DVF's Dinner, An Elegant Soiree for Edun, Prabal Gurung's Post-Show Dinner, and Tome's Big Bash

The high-energy atmosphere that was palpable following the DVF runway show continued at the after-party for the designer’s latest collection. Once arriving at Diane von Furstenberg’s studio space in the Meatpacking District, guests strutted up the staircase to the second floor where they were treated to a selection of hors d’oeuvres, drinks, dinner, and a special viewing of the premiere of the second season of the E! network’s House of DVF. Amid the bevy of women proudly sporting their favored DVF frocks were Vogue’s very own Hamish Bowles and fashion director and senior vice president of Neiman Marcus stores Ken Downing.

“At the show, the hair was amazing, the makeup was right, the girls had smiles on their faces, and there was this diverse group of models,” the charming Downing explained. In between mingling with guests, Von Furstenberg happily shared what influenced her collection this season: “My inspiration was from a painting called Fortuna with the Roman goddess, and it’s a celebration of beauty, nature, freedom—but most of all, individuality of the woman.” The collection, which debuted a few hours before the after-party, received rave reviews and featured plenty of powerful women seated in the front row. “I create for all women. I help the woman be who she wants to be,” the designer proudly proclaimed. Downing, who recalled his first encounter with Von Furstenberg as a young boy, excitingly concluded, “To see her still as passionate today as she was the first time I met her when I was 8 or 9 years old, it gives me the courage to go on. She has lived her life, and she continues to live her life and reinvent her life. She’s an inspiration to me, and she should be an inspiration to everybody.”

Just a stone’s throw away at the Waverly Inn, guests gathered to celebrate all things Edun. “I love a surprise,” said Edun’s creative director Danielle Sherman under the twinkling lights in the Waverley Inn’s garden, referring to the Kuba drummers that took their place front row at the show and drummed along to the models’ steps. “It was awesome,” added MyTheresa’s buying director Justin O’Shea, who had been seated next to one of the musicians. Joining him at the dinner was his German girlfriend, Veronika Heilbrunner—dressed in a sweet sixties suede Edun shift dress from fall—as well as Michael Stipe and his artist boyfriend Thomas Dozol. Photographer Zackery Michael, who was shooting Immy Waterhouse and Suki Waterhouse the following morning was also in attendance. “Africa is always central to the collection,” Sherman added later, revealing that 95 percent of the collection is now being produced there. Meanwhile, the Irish contingent entertained—Ali Hewson and friends recited poetry over a glass of Pouilly-Fuissé and a delicious chicken dinner. With spirits high, Sherman’s husband, photographer Todd Selby, took a break from shooting interiors and obliged everyone who wanted their picture taken. A Selby is highly preferable over a selfie after all—and a lovely way to commemorate a great show and evening.

At Cafe Clover, Prabal Gurung hosted his intimate fete with friends, including Gabrielle Union and Dwyane Wade, Jennifer Hudson, and Laverne Cox. The designer, who was the talk of the town after Nepalese monks opened his show, took some time to relax and reflect, joined by a coterie of chicettes, including Nell Diamond, Bettina Prentice, and Maggie Betts. “There’s nothing like being surrounded by the best of friends after a show,” said Gurung flanked by Barbara Bush, Mia Moretti, and actresses Lily Rabe and Tavi Gevinson.

Also in a celebratory mood were Ryan Lobo and Ramon Martin of Tome. “He was very Mrs Dalloway—he went and picked all the flowers himself,” said Martin of his Tome partner Lobo. “He’s obsessed with flowers.” This obsession resulted in a verdant, jungle tablescape at the brand’s dinner to celebrate its Spring 2016 collection. Hosted at Indochine by Caroline Issa, wearing a white crepe column straight off Thursday’s runway, the dinner got a good showing from the Australian fashion mafia (aka the designers who met at fashion school in Sydney) as Candice Lake and Yasmin Sewell were in attendance. Elisabeth von Thurn und Taxis and Issa compared their dangling fish earrings, which were also paired with looks from Thursday’s show. “I have to be careful when I say hello to people,” said Issa of whacking people in the cheek with her silver poisson. The Tome designers swapped seats mid-meal so that they each had some time in the seat of honor between actresses Rebecca Hall and Michele Hicks, both of whom attended the label’s runway show. How will they relax now that the show is over? There’s officially no rest for the weary. Martin is getting married in just two weeks!
