Dulles Airport Transportation

by Amy Krause Mangaer
Washington, DC can be reached from Dulles airport in a variety of ways. It can feel like a hassle to fly from downtown D.C. to Dulles Airport because it is a big distance. The method to travel with to DC from the airport will depend on a number of factors.

For instance, your priority might be cost above other things and therefore you might tend to prefer some methods such as shuttle and bus.

This might come with some disadvantages such as requiring sharing of rides and inconveniences about stops. If your priority is not cost but speed, you might tend to prefer a taxi travel although that will be more costly.

However, there are many ways of reaching Washington DC including Dulles airport taxi just as is the case with BWI airport transportation service and airport shuttles in Baltimore MD. Below are some of these options.

1. DC metro bus to and from Dulles: On the 5A, you are able to get Metro bus that charges around $7 for Smart Trip card users and guests who pay with cash. Seniors pay only $3.50 as is with people with disability.

Unlike the Dulles airport taxi, airport shuttle in Baltimore MD will make some stops along the way. With this Metro bus, you expect three stops, but it will take around 50 minutes to get to your destination. However, the whole journey could extend by 15-30 minutes if you are traveling during rush hour. The bus starts the trips at 4:45 am and there is a bus every 30 minutes.
The last departure is 10:30 pm.

2. DC metro rail to and from Dulles: The Silver Line train also connects to DC from Dulles international airport. You might also have to get a 10 minute bus ride to Wiehle-Reston East station from Dulles and transfer to Metro Rail if the bus only gets to Wiehle-Reston East as the last point. This bus leaves to and from the airport every 15-20 minutes.

Each person pays $5 on this bus although you will also pay an additional $5.90 to get to downtown DC from Wiehle-Reston East to Metro Rail. It means the journey is cheaper if you are stopping in Virginia.

This journey will take only around 45 minutes to downtown DC from Wiehle-Reston although the duration can be affected by traffic especially during the rush hour. However, this will not affect prices.

3. Shuttle services to and from Dulles: Most of the shuttle services from the Dulles Airport to points around Washington, DC are shared services. Thus the duration may be affected.

Other services that let you travel from Dulles to DC include the Go airport shuttle which runs for 24/7 and offers airport pick up and drop off with private cars and shared vans with limo options.

Super Shuttle is also an option that will let you travel to DC from the airport with fairs starting at $30 for the first passenger and $10 for each additional passenger. The total cost may therefore depend on number of passengers.
