Drive Smart, Stylish, and Efficient with Toyota Vitz

Toyota Vitz is a 3- or 5-door subcompact hatchback manufactured by Toyota in 1998.  Toyota Vitz which is also known as the Toyota Yaris in different countries was awarded “Car of the Year 1999-2000” in Japan and is known for its dependability, exceptional fuel economy, and versatile hatchback design. 


1st Generation

Toyota Vitz which is known as XP10 started in 1998 and is marketed globally across 3 generations. The first generation began in late 1998 to 2004 with 3 or 5 doors hatchback and came with different engines such as a 1.0L 1SZ-FE, 1.3L 8A-FE, 1.3L 2SZ-FE, 1.3L 2NZ-FE, 1.5L 1NZ-FE, 1.5L 1NZ-FE Turbo I4-T petrol engines, and 1.4L 1ND-TV I4-T diesel engine. These engines are linked to a 5-speed manual, 4-speed AW80-40LE automatic, or CVT.

Some models featured a revised mesh grille, front fog lamps, front and rear bumpers, side skirts, black-tinted headlamps, and alloy wheels. The interior includes a leather-wrapped steering wheel, sports-oriented front seats, metallic door sill scuff plates, and a leather and chrome gear shifter.


2nd Generation

The second generation began in 2005 and ran until 2010 with changes including a 35mm and 90 mm increase in length and wheelbase respectively, and improved engine power. The 2nd generation Vitz offers functional and convenient features including privacy glass, remote unlocking, smart entry, and start, dedicated rear LED combination lamps, and the TOYOTA INTELLIGENT IDLING STOP SYSTEM. Safety-wise, the 2nd generation Vitz does not come short, with systems such as Star Safety System, Vehicle Stability Control (VSC), Traction Control (TRAC), Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) with Electronic Brake-force Distribution (EBD), and Brake Assist. The Yaris became the 1st car in its class to offer nine airbags.


Facelift

In 2009, the Toyota Vitz upgraded its interior featuring plating decorations on the inside door handles. Other features include an audio CD system and privacy glass, a bumper with in-built cornering protectors, orange-tinted signal taillights, and air dams. The 2nd generation Vitz comes with similar engines as the 1st generation: 1.0L 1KR-FE, 1.3L 2SZ-FE, 1.3L 2NZ-FE, 1.3L 1NR-FE, 1.5L 1NZ-FE, 1.5L 1NZ-FTE, 1.6L 4ZR-FE, 1.8L 2ZR-FE petrol engines, and 1.4L 1ND-TV I4-T diesel engine. The Vitz fuel consumption Vitz is between 16 km/l and 24.5 km/l.


3rd Generation

The third generation Vitz (XP130) ran from 2010 to 2019 and was available in 4 trims: The standard F, the mid-trim Jewela, the high-end U, and the sporty RS. This Vitz features on the third-generation include a DVD player, navigation, adjustable steering, and an engine start-stop system. Standard features on the U and RS trims include alloy rims, fog lights, and signal lights on the side mirrors.


Facelift

In 2014, the Toyota Vitz received a facelift with new features including an instrument cluster restored in front of the driver, a single windscreen wiper, and 9 airbags. The 2015 RS (G’s sport) trim comes with, a new aero body kit, 17-inch lightweight aluminum wheels, tuned suspensions, and high-performance tires. This Vitz comes with a 1.0L 1KR-FE I3 (KSP130) engine and is paired with either a 5-speed manual, 6-speed manual (GRMN), 4-speed automatic CVT (Japan only), or eCVT. The average fuel consumption of these engines is 18 km/l.


4th Generation

In 2019, a fourth-generation Toyota Yaris (Vitz nameplate has been dropped) based on the new TNGA was unveiled, and officially launched in Japan on 10 February 2020. This launch marked the debut of the Yaris nameplate in Japan, dropping the Vitz badge. The XP210 series Yaris is a subcompact hatchback, that retains the dimensions of its predecessor (the XP 130 Vitz) with a width of 1695 mm. 


The 2019 Toyota Yaris comes with new standard features including Toyota’s “Advanced Park” and the “Turn Tilt Seats”, and an upgraded Toyota Safety Sense safety system. The “eyes on the road concept” focused on reducing driver-eye movement by providing a high-mounted Display Audio (DA) and Head-Up Display (HUD) as standard.


The XP210 Yaris offers four engines: 1.0-liter petrol, optional 1.5-liter Dynamic Force Engine with New-generation Hybrid System, the 1.5-liter Dynamic Force Engine, and the newly developed 1.5-liter inline three-cylinder Dynamic Force Engine. These engines are paired with a Direct shift-CVT transmission and a 6-speed manual transmission as an option. Available drivetrains include an optional 4WD for 1.5-liter models, with the hybrid model getting an “E-Four” electric four-wheel drive system.
