Do You Know Your Perfume? Check this Guide

by Kristen White Blogger
Buying perfume can be overwhelming as after a while they all seem the same. The best perfumes for women in India boast long-lasting fragrance, appealing scent, and covering body odour. But, how’d you know which one is suitable for you? Here is our guide to picking the right fragrance.

The Right Note

Every perfume has three notes, the base, middle, and top note, and they all work in synchrony to create a unique fragrance. For example, men’s perfumes have a heavier musky note, with undertones of pine or leather. Women’s perfumes have floral or fruiter notes such as rose, apple, or even spices such as star anise.

When you spray the perfume on your skin, the top notes, like citrusy and powdery, will drift off first. Then, are the middle notes, such as heavy floral scents. Finally, it’s the base notes, such as smoky and leathery. The top and notes drift off quickly, and the bottom tone will last longer. So, pick the perfume with a bottom note that you like.

The Right Concentration

The higher the concentration level, the more expensive is the perfume. This is the general rule to bear in mind when shopping for perfume. Also, higher concentration means s long-lasting fragrance. The ones with the highest concentration are called perfumes and are known to last through the day. The next level of concentration is called eau de parfum, and these usually last for 6-8 hours.

The third level of concentration is called eau de toilette and is fairly mild. The final level is the eau de cologne and lasts only for a couple of hours. The level three and level four are usually available in departmental stores and affordable.

The Right Fragrance

When testing perfumes, sniffing the bottle is important as it gives you an idea of the basic notes, but, make sure to try it on your skin. Applying on the skin allows the perfume to develop along with the hormones and pheromones, thus creating a unique scent. This is the scent that others will smell. So, this is the scent that should be pleasant and appealing.

It is best to try on perfume and return after a few hours to buy it. By then, it will have time to develop and mingle with your skin and give you the final scent. The best perfume for women in India is the one that lasts long in the humid climate.

The Right Trial

When trying perfumes, we suggest that you try only three scents at a time. Anything beyond that will not register as your olfactory senses are not used to more than this. Also, start with the lighter notes first like musk or aqua. If you try a heavier note first, you will not be able to do justice to the lighter notes.

The Coffee Bean Neutralizer

When trying different fragrances, skip the in-between coffee bean sniff. It’s just another strong scent that overwhelms your senses. Instead, bury your nose in the nook of your elbow which has no fragrance. This will normalize your olfactory senses to try the next scent.

The Occasion

You may be the kind who sticks to one scent no matter the occasion, or change fragrances for every occasion. By sticking to one scent, you can create a signature fragrance that is only you, but with so much choice, it may be slightly difficult to do so.

You can switch between perfumes depending on the occasion. Shopping expeditions will require perfumes that last long, while a wedding may need just ones that last for a few hours.

Ideally, one would prefer to have a signature scent, but, in today’s world, with so much choice, it’s difficult to stick to one. This guide can be your north star when it comes to picking the right perfume.
