Do You Also Have Any Questions Regarding the MOT Test?

We see many questions related to MOT testing and try to answer them as best we can. On this blog, we have shared details about the importance of the certificate, refund policy inspection list etc. so that you can always partake in this test without any loss or difficulty.

Let’s Know the Overview of the MOT Test and Its Inspection List

Many MOT centres in the UK are regulated as all licensed by the DVSA. Whoever gets the vehicle inspected that tester has to first follow a training and get a certificate. This test has been initiated indirectly for the convenience and safety of the public as it shows whether the vehicle can meet all the UK road safety parameters or not. Any decision to pass or fail depends on the test carried out by the tester and its response and is all carried out within the DVSA guidelines. Now, let’s have a look at the checking points that every vehicle has to undergo:

  • Seatbelts

  • Windscreen

  • Horn

  • Steering

  • Seats

  • Bonnet Clutch

  • Number Plate

  • Fuel System

  • Battery

  • Wiring

  • Doors

  • Tyres and Wheels

  • Body and Structure

  • Suspension

  • Mirrors

  • Brakes

  • Lights

All vehicles are first required to undergo this MOT Test Reading after they are 3 years old, regardless of whether they have been used during this period or not. Here for an ambulance, taxi and private passengers, this interval is given for only 1 year. Since the validity of this certification is one year to confirm the roadworthiness of the vehicle, your vehicle must pass the test once again.

What Is the Role of MOT Test Certificate?

Proof of passing the test is the MOT certificate which confirms that the inspected vehicle meets all road safety as well as eco-friendly standards. This certificate does not declare it to be for a lifetime as its validity is only for 1 year. Now you must understand why attending for annual test is a legal requirement for all vehicles, be it heavy, light, small-sized or large. This test checks the condition of all vital parts except the engine (not regarding emissions), gearbox and clutch.

What Are the Consequences If You Miss the MOT Test?

This question may also arise in the minds of many people what will happen if they intentionally or accidentally avoid this test? So we would like to let you know that you will be banned from using your vehicle because you have not passed the test and have not obtained its certificate. The purpose of introducing MOT tests was to ensure that the vehicle is in good condition and that driving it does not compromise one's safety. If a vehicle does not have a certificate or is invalid but is still being used, the transport authority can fine you. When this happens repeatedly, they also have the right to confiscate your driving license.

Can You Get a Refund If You Cancel Your MOT Test

Do you also plan to cancel an appointment for the MOT Test, so are you wondering whether you will get a refund of the fees paid on pre-booking or not? If yes, then we would like to advise you to check the terms and conditions of our centre as they also mention the details of their refund policy in it. Many stations also take time to reschedule your vehicle's MOT Test but in this case, they can do so at all if they are not at a loss. Many centres refuse to give a refund because they do not take anyone else's booking on that slot due to your appointment. So you should book only on that date and time if you have free time in your busy schedule.

Is There Any Exemption in MOT Test?

There is flexibility regarding lighting in the test.  For instance, if a vehicle does not have rear and front lights or they are always permanently off, there will be no hindrance in passing the MOT. For such vehicles, testers add a reminder note on the VT32 document. This reminds you that this vehicle should only be used during daylight hours as it poses a danger when visibility is reduced, such as in the evening when it gets dark. This is an additional part included in the MOT test otherwise everything remains the same. This rule falls under the Road Vehicle Lighting Regulation, so if you break it, you will have to face consequences.

Which Vehicles Do Not Have to Experience MOT Test?

Did you know that some vehicles do not have to undergo MOT testing and are still allowed to be used on the road? Yes, it is possible, we are talking here about a vehicle that has been manufactured or purchased for more than 40 years and has not had any significant modifications in the last 30 years. If there is any technical modification (not approved) on any major part then it will be necessary to attend MOT Reading. Similarly, this rule is slightly different for vehicles larger in size.

Despite the possibilities, keep in mind that the vehicle should be properly serviced after a certain interval as the main purpose of the MOT test is also to ensure that there are no road hazards due to a faulty vehicle.
