Different Types of Microsoft Office Setup Services

by Lena Smith Technical Engineer

There was a time when getting Microsoft Office was pretty simple, straightforward and easy. All you needed to do was visit the local software dealer and buy the Office packaged. Back home you would unpack a CD, a card with the product key, and perhaps a manual. All you needed to do was slip the CD into the CD drive and the automatic installer would take care of the rest. You just had to enter the product key somewhere during the installation.

Things aren’t the same today however. Not only does Microsoft update the current edition of Office you have installed, it also keeps coming up with the new versions every now and then. Microsoft has been updating the Office suite quite regularly. The latest version is MS Office 2016. Honestly, it becomes a bit difficult to keep a track of all versions.

What’s more confusing is that MS Office does not have many versions but several variants of a single version. Let’s take a look at different types of Microsoft Office.com/Setup Services.

Variants of the Latest Version

As already mentioned, Office 2016 is the latest version of this suite. It also has several variants. While it all may seem confusing to someone who is new, it has been designed this way to serve various purposes, for example  2016 has an Office Home and Student iteration. This installation has been especially designed for the personal use, for example if you wish to use Office on your home computer, you can install this version. This suite has the latest MS Office products including PowerPoint, MS Word, MS Excel and more.

The Home and Student version is meant only for use on a single computer. If you wish to use it on any other computer, you will need to uninstall it from the computer on which it is installed. The latest version has many new features. You can also save the documents online and allow multiple users to edit it.

Then there is another type of setup called Microsoft Office 365. This setup is primarily for small offices. There are various payment plans available. You can buy this version for a single computer or multiple computers. If you wish to buy the multiple device plans it is available for up to 5 devices including personal computers and mobile devices.

Besides this, there are various enterprise editions too. If you have a large organization and need to install MS Office on various computers, you will need the enterprise edition.

Various Setups of MS Office

So far we have talked about the latest version of Microsoft. But, there are other setups too. In other words, there are other versions as well. You don’t necessarily need to install the 2016 edition. Here is the list of various setups according to their versions:

  • Office 2003
  • Office 2007
  • Office 2010
  • Office 365
  • Office 2016

There are rumours round the corner that Microsoft will come up with the 2017 version as well. However, they are just rumours. We will have to wait and watch.
