Diamond Shopping Guide For Men

by Donna Fisher Jewelry Designer
Sooner or later, most men are going to need to purchase a diamond. Some of them are going to need to buy one for themselves but more than likely they are going to need to buy it for a significant other. Since this is not something that most men do on a regular basis, it's important for them to educate themselves about how to purchase a diamond and what to expect when they go into the stores that are selling them. Here is a short guide that can help you through the process so that you make a choice that is not only going to be right for you, it will be right for the recipient.

One of the first things that you need to understand is perhaps something that you are going to hear more and more frequently as you research purchasing diamonds. The four C's of diamonds can help you to determine the diamond values and how it is going to look when all is said and done. These four C's are cut, color, clarity and carat weight. You may also want to consider that there is a fifth C, although this is something that is left out in many cases. The fifth C is the certificate that may be available for the diamond.

When choosing the diamond, it is important for you to consider the cut of the diamond first. The reason why this is important is because most women are going to have a very definite choice in this regard. If you have not been able to discuss this with your significant other, it would be a good idea for you to find out her choice before going in to make the purchase. If this is impossible because you want it to be a surprise, try talking to a trusted friend or somebody that is able to keep a secret.

As far as the other C's are concerned, these can be compromised in some way or another. You are never going to be able to get a diamond that is absolutely faultless, at least when it is looked at through some form of magnification. You may be able to get your diamond at a more affordable price if you compromise a little bit in the color or clarity. The carat weight is something that is going to be determined in advance but you may be able to save money by shaving a little bit off of the carat weight, as long as you do not go too low that it is going to make a remarkable difference in the appearance.

Finally, it is very important that you are able to trust the store where you are purchasing the diamond. If they are trustworthy, they will be able to walk you through the process and show you all the various options that are available to help you to get a diamond that is truly going to be breathtaking. When you make the right decision, you will be able to be proud of the diamond that you are purchasing and the fact that you did the right thing for your significant other.
