4 Tips on Earning Extra Money for Lavish Gifts

by Donna Fisher Jewelry Designer

Many of us enjoy giving gifts and we may do so throughout the year. The unfortunate reality is, however, even though we may enjoy giving gifts, they can be difficult to afford at times. Perhaps we have experienced an economic setback or we may simply enjoy giving more than what we have to give. Fortunately for you, there are some options that are available which can help you to give gifts in a budget situation. Here are a few tips that can make a difference in your ability to give somebody the perfect present without having to worry about its effect on your wallet.

One of the more common ways that you can save money on gifts is to use coupons. Coupons are available for almost every store and you can find them in your local mailers, along with finding them on the Internet. A little bit of caution does need to be used, however, as there are some fake coupons that are circulating and you must ensure that you are using something that is real. You should also check to see if the coupon has expired. In some cases, expired coupons can still be used, such as when you purchase items from Bed Bath and Beyond using an outdated coupon. In other cases, they will follow the expiration date on the coupon stringently.

If you are going to be paying for the gift with a credit card, you can save money by using the points that are on the credit card. You can either end up getting some cash back at the end of the month or you may be able to use the points for your own purposes, such as when you are accumulating points to earn an airline ticket. One caution that needs to be considered, is the fact that you must pay your credit card off every month in order to truly experience those benefits. If you are paying a lot in the way of interest, you are going to negate any savings that were available.

If you want to give a big gift, why not sell something that you are not currently using in order to put that money in your pocket directly? For example, selling diamond ring components or the entire ring is one option can really make you a considerable amount of money. When you sell diamond jewelry, you're not only selling the gemstone, you are also selling the precious metal that makes up the jewelry. Since gold and silver are being sold at high rates today, you might be surprised with how much money you are able to put in your pocket.

Finally, consider the possibility of creating gifts that are made at your home. It is not always necessary for you to buy something to let somebody know that you care. Making them something at home, either as a type of craft or even making them a delicious meal for their family can certainly go a long way. Not only are you going to save money directly because you are not buying a gift, you are usually going to give them something that is much appreciated.
