Costume Contact Lenses Can Add Finishing Touch to Your Outfit

by Steven Jones Owner
On any occasion of the year, when your costume planning gets more serious, many of you may consider the use of costume contact lenses which will add extra flair. Whether you are dressing up as a vampire or cat that glows in the dark, dressing up your eyes can add the finishing touch to your outfit.

Contact lenses, in general, have become so ordinary that sometimes people don’t think them as a medical device. Even costume contact lenses can cause serious infection, corneal abrasions and in worst cases lead to permanent vision loss. Therefore, costume contact lenses need a prescription from an eye doctor.

The Cornea forms the outermost protective layer of the eye; it is a clear, dome-shaped part of the eye in front of the colored part of the eye (iris). It protects and shares eye protection responsibilities with the eyelids, tears, the eye socket, and the white part of the eyes which is called sclera. These costume contact lenses look like a tiny piece of plastic, but truly they are much more complex and worn on the cornea. Therefore they have the potential to harm the cornea so maintaining the health and clarity of the cornea is important to your vision. Find below some of the measures you need to follow while buying costume contact lenses for you:

Get a prescription from a licensed eye doctor

Even If you have perfect vision, you should have an eye exam and get a prescription before you buy and wear costume contact lenses. As it is important to follow a doctor’s instructions for medical pills, it is equally important to follow the instructions of a licensed eye doctor with regards to contact lens use.

Buy SFDA-approved costume contact lenses

Every part of our body needs oxygen to be healthy, unlike our body cornea does not have blood vessels so it does not receive oxygen or any other nourishment from the bloodstream. Alternatively, the cornea receives nourishment from the atmosphere, from the tears, and from an aqueous humor, which is a fluid in front part of the eye and fills the space behind the cornea. So it is important to buy SFDA-approved costume contact lenses because they are made of special materials that allow oxygen and other gases to pass through the contact lens and reach to the cornea.

Buy proper fitting costume contact lenses

All eyes are not of the same size, so contact lenses are manufactured in various sizes to fit the different sizes and shapes of our eyes. So before buying your costume contact lenses get proper fittings by a licensed eye doctor because wearing contact lenses that do not fit right can cause corneal abrasions and corneal ulcers. Corneal infections can lead to loss of vision and it requires corneal transplant as only the therapy.

So on any occasion and every other day of the year,  if you are going to wear the costume contact lenses, be sure that you first visit your eye doctor and follow proper instructions of wear and care mentioned on the contact lens case or given by your eye doctor.
