Cosmetology Course Description
by SOUTHEASTERN TECHNICAL INSTITUTE Dental Assisting School EastonCosmetology School South Shore program provides you with hands-on training in the beauty industry. Clinical training is supported by extensive study of related sciences in hair, skin, and nails. Demonstrations by guest artists and field trips to beauty shows are used as educational tools. Students prepare to take the state license exam for cosmetology certification. Co-op and job placement are available after students have completed their 1000 hour program and passed the State Board exam. The course curriculum includes salon management, computer training, client preparation, retailing, scalp treatments, hair styling, hair cutting, permanent waves, hair colouring, and hair lightening techniques, braiding, facials, make-up, and manicures.
Freshman
This program is designed to give students the basic knowledge and skills necessary for a successful progression to the next level of their program training. Instruction will include safety and sanitation, shampooing, wet and thermal hairstyling, braiding, and manicuring. The skincare, basic facials, and makeup are introduced this year as well.
Sophomores
This program is designed to enhance the student's basic skills and knowledge needed to progress to the next level of their program. Focus in this level will include hair cutting, hair removal, and artificial nails. Students will then move into the introduction of the application of foils, perm rods, and colour application.
Juniors
This program of instruction will reinforce practices learned and introduce new techniques that will advance their knowledge and technical skills. Instruction will include makeup applications, salon management, advanced hair cutting, chemical texture services, hair colouring techniques, foiling, and cap highlighting.
Seniors
This program will provide students the opportunity to advance and master their technical skills, and prepare the students for state licensing and workforce readiness. The focus of instruction will include business management and entrepreneurship. Instruction will also include advanced techniques in cutting, colouring, and styling, students who qualify can participate in our cooperative program. At the end of this program, students will be able to perform daily tasks in a salon safely and professionally.
Their Cosmetology graduates who pursue a bachelor's degree or beyond can find a variety of in-demand, high-income job opportunities in the beauty industry including Cosmetic chemists, Vocational Teacher, Medical aestheticians (RN), Dermatologist, and Cosmetic Surgeon.
The Cosmetology program prepares students for immediate entry as licensed cosmetologists into the massive and ever-growing beauty industry. Students gain real-life work experience by running a live student salon and have limitless opportunities for cooperative education placement upon licensure. Cosmetologists frequently work in salons and spas, though many also choose to pursue careers in print/film work and event styling, which includes working on-set or on-location. Most cosmetology careers require standing for long periods and appeal to individuals that thrive in social, busy, fun, and creative environments.
