One of the great epic of the Hindus, Ramayana was set in this city that boasts of spirituality in its every bit. This is the Ayodhya city, the Lord Rama’s birthplace. He was the 7th manifestation of Lord Vishnu. Situated on the right side of the sacred banks of River Ghagra or Saryu, it has the ancient and quite sacred precincts of the Kosala dynasty. Ramkot: It is the focal worship place, situated in the western part of city, the old citadel. It witness continuous rush of visitors all through the year, but at the time of Ram Navmi (birth day of lord Ram), it draws the devotees from many places.

Hanuman Garhi: It is assumed that Hanuman, the great devotee of lord Rama used to stay here and guard the holy place Ramkot or Janmbhoomi from these caves. It is huge structure in shape of fort from four sides with round bastion in every corner, being situated on a decent height, and in center of the city can be reached by climbing 76 steps.

Nageshwarnath Temple: Located on the eastern side, along the banks of River, it is believed to be built by Khush the son of lord Ram. It is assumed that Khush has dedicated this temple to lord shiva, for the Nag kanya who felt in love with him. It is the only survived temple till the time of Vikramaditya who found the Ayodhya with help of it.

Treta ke Thakur: The temple stands at the location where Lord Rama is believed to have executed the Ashwamedha Yagna. It is built by the Raja of Kulu 300 years back, a new temple known to be Kaleram ka Mandir in which the idols of Rama, Sita, Bharat and Lakshman are said to be engraved out of a single block of black stone. The idols are supposed to be the original Rama temple, which was once located on the banks of the River Sarayu.

There are also some other places to visit in Ayodhya such as Laxman Ghat, Mani Parbat, Swarg Dwar, Sugriv Parbat, Kanak Bhavan, Vijayraghav temple, and choti chawni.

How to reach Ayodhya

Ayodhya can be reached by all the means of transport like Road, Railway, and Air. However, the Airport it has is small and not used for commercial purpose. Its nearest International Airport is at Lucknow which is 130 km from here. Railway provide good connectivity with this place as there are ample trains available for big cities like Delhi, Lucknow, Allahabad, and Varanasi. Road transportation also aids to its connectivity as plenty of buses are available from major cities of Lucknow, Varanasi, Allahabad, Gorakhpur and other main cities.
