Cleaning Tips For Pet-Owners

by Megan Steel Consultant

Nothing compares to the unconditional love that a pet can give you. Even though it is a major responsibility, to take on the full-time cares for another being, it is totally worth it. Still, once you make the decision of adopting a pet, you need to be prepared for the occasional accident, fur rolling around at home, and the early wake-ups for the morning walk.

What most pet-owners find most challenging, however, is cleaning after their pet. While it might be fun to bathe it, to feed it, and to walk it, it is no fun cleaning up an old pet stain from your favourite carpet or picking up the hairs form your brand new Venetian upholstery. Nevertheless, one look into the deep, wet, adoring eyes of your pet is usually enough for you to forgive him/ her every crime. Thanks to Cleaning Glen Waverley, I have assembled three useful cleaning tips for pet owners that will help you reduce the amount of labour you put into keeping your home clean with a cat or dog in tow:

1. Localise the Damage:

Naturally, the first step to keeping your home clean and tidy, even with a pet, is to try and prevent unneeded contaminations. Firstly, take on the grooming. A well combed, and regularly washed fur will not only reduce the smell that comes off from your pet, but it will also reduce the amount of hair falling off. Once you minimize the shedding, you will see that it is easier to keep your home clean. Secondly, you should limit the access of your pet to some of the areas in your home. For instance, if you keep the doors of the closet closed, pet hairs won't be able to penetrate. If your cutie has a favourite lying spot, you should cover it with a fabric that keeps the fallen hair, instead of allowing it to roam free in your dwelling.

2. Vacuum Clean and Use Lint Brushes

If you have a good vacuum cleaner, preferably with HEPA filter, and rotating brushes, no amount of pet hair will withstand your cleaning skills. Furthermore, HEPA filters are known to eliminate allergens, so you can have the peace of mind that your family, and your kids in particular, are safe. In case, you have a serious problem with pet smell, you should sprinkle some soda on the carpet, and the upholstery before vacuum cleaning. For best results, you ought to leave the soda on the fabric for half an hour. Lint brushes are also very handy when you have a pet at home. Whenever you don't have the time to get the vacuum cleaner and do a thorough cleaning, you can brush your clothes or furniture with the lint brush.

3. Treat Pet Stains

As usual, it is best to act immediately once a stain occurs – grab a towel and absorb the excess “liquid”. After that use a vinegar and water solution to clean the stain. Old pet stains are much trickier, and harder to clean than new ones, and they tend to give off quite the hefty smell, too. In order to clean old stains, you should soak the spot with the same vinegar and water mixture, and sprinkle baking soda on top of them. Let the cleaners to work for 30 minutes, and then use a mild carper cleaner to wash everything off.
