Cities You Should Visit Before You Die

by Geoff Smith Writer

I'm not a big fan of sequels, but last time I made a really small list of cities you should visit before you die. So, here is a part 2. This time I will try to add as much cities as possible. Of course, everything is according to my opinion and everybody can make their own guide.

So, what are the cities you should visit before you die?

Dubrovnik, Croatia

This is the top visited city in Croatia. And not only there - it is one of the famous tourist resorts in the Mediterranean Sea. It is not as shiny as Italian cities or at least not so promoted, but believe me, if I had to choose between Venice and Dubrovnik - Dubrovnik wins every time. What to see there? Just get to the old city and everything around you is worth seeing. It would be nice to start from the old port. Go to the Placa Stradun (that's the central street) and just walk along it. You can even go on the city walls and walk around the city. It's a one hour walk and you will have a lovely view from there. Oh, and did I mention, that there are some nice beaches, too?

Prague, Czech Republic.

This is simply the best city for professional spies. Every world-famous spy has been there on a mission and you have seen it in many movies. And there is no wonder, that directors like this city for their movies. The architecture, the sights, all of the museums makes it the sixth most visited city in Europe. Like many places, the old city is one of the best places to be. You have all kinds of Gothic buildings and attractions from different periods. It is good that most of the sights have survived the horrible events from the middle of the last century. But it's not only the old town with its Powder Tower or the Jewish Cemetery. The New Town has a lot of things to show, too. The National museum and the Theatre, The Dancing house and many more. It doesn't matter when you are going to visit, because it's beautiful in all seasons.

Edinburgh, Scotland

This is the second most visited city in the United Kingdom. It is the capital of Scotland. If you like Medieval architecture, this is the place to be. I can't find enough words to describe the old town. You just have to be there to see it. The Edinburgh Castle is just an amazing structure and it one of the most haunted places in the world, so here is another reason for you to be there. And if you are accidentally tired of all the magnificent buildings in the Old or the New town, there is one more very big reason to be there - The Edinburgh Festival. Several different festivals held annually for about four weeks.

Amsterdam, The Netherlands

A lot of people like to go there because of the red-light district and because of all the cannabis coffee shops. They were always very famous, but is this the only reason to visit this city? Probably for teenagers, yes, but for the other people, there are so many architectural monuments and buildings, so many museums, and not only that, but places you should visit. If you are an artist, there are so many museums, showing different works and parts of the lives of famous artists, like Van Gogh, Rembrandt House museum, The Stendelijk Museum and many more. This is one of the cultural capitals of Europe and no wonder - with so many museums and concert halls, with so many festivals, this is the place to be.

Venice, Italy

There is no need for introduction. We all know about Venice, whether we have seen it in the many movies or in video games, or just because you have read a book or have paid attention in your history class. Some consider it one of the most romantic cities in the world. They would probably be right - being in a gondola with your loved one, passing under the many bridges, surrounded by beautiful architecture, what could be more romantic than that?

Cities like New York, Paris, Barcelona, Madrid, Beijing, San Francisco are also places you should be, but they are not in my top list. As said in Cities you should visit before you die part 1, working in a rubbish clearance company has its minuses, because you don't have all the spare time for travelling. But at least the salary in a junk removal London based company is good, so one city at a time and after a few years the dream of visiting every city in my list, will be completed.
