Choosing the Right Types of Skin Care Products

by Abhinav G. Movie Enthusiast
It is highly essential that in choosing personal skin care products, you are aware of what you need. Lots of people have wasted too much time and money on products they do not need. Do research and read about available products before doing your shopping. It also helps a lot to make choices based on the recommendations of experts or medical practitioners when your skin needs special attention.

Skin evaluation

It is important to make an assessment of your skin prior to purchasing over-the-counter items. Learn about the basic facts which include:

Type of skin. It can be normal, oily, dry, sensitive, or a combination. In order to determine this, pat dry after washing the face and take the skin test only after about twenty minutes. Using some facial tissues, blot the different parts of your face. If skin is oily, the tissue will stick to the skin and absorb the oil while the tissue paper becomes semi-transparent. If the paper does not absorb any oil, this indicates that the skin is dry. If it absorbs oil only on the forehead, nose, and chin, the skin is normal or a combination. Most women have this type of skin.

Complexion. Fair skin can burn under the sun easily. Light to medium may or may not easily burn. For medium complexion, the skin typically becomes tan while a darker complexion seldom burns under the heat of the sun. Some people who have very dark skin never get burned.

Skin problems. People buy skin care products according to their needs. There is a certain age when costumers regularly shop for preventive products that help to avoid early aging of the skin. Those who have breakouts, fine lines, melasma, among other skin concerns, they prefer products that can treat or manage these issues. Wrinkles and sin damage caused by the UV rays will need treatment and special kinds of skin products.

Personal routines. Different factors involved in people’s lives on a daily basis influence the way a person takes care of his or her skin.

Knowing certain information about one’s skin can help in finding products that are most appropriate to the person’s type of skin. Experts can assist with this detail and provide professional advises. They might emphasize sticking to the basic three steps in caring for the skin which are cleansing, toning, and moisturizing.

Cleansing
Wash the face two times a day, in the morning and at night before going to sleep. For dry skin, skip the soap and just use water in the morning and pat dry the skin. Cream based or moisturizing cleanser is better to use than harsh soaps.

Toning
Astringents are only required for oily skin after cleansing.  Use of alcohol based products that are usually used for toning must be minimized. Since they have alcohol, they remove the protective oil on the skin surface and leave the skin dry. This could trigger the skin to produce more oil. There are toning products for sensitive skin that can be used on the face occasionally.

Moisturizing
Not all people prefer to moisturize, particularly those with oily skin. The part of the face that may require moisturizing is the skin that surrounds the eyes. Moisturizing skin care products can be free of oil which a lot of people with normal skin prefer to use since these are supposed to prevent blocking the pores.
