“CBSE Exam Papers Leak Gives a lot of Room for Doubt”

by Shivanand Hulyalkar Maharashtra Pradesh Youth Congress

Exams are a helpful tool to find out how much the student has understood what has been taught to him in the classroom. Every parent and teacher knows how much students abhor exams, as they are afraid of doing badly. This year, like every year, students of Class 10 and 12 had made post-exams plans with their families or friends. “It is unfair to those students to hold a re-exam, due to a paper leak caused by the negligence of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) and the Ministry of HRD,” Mr. Shivanand Hulyalkar, a senior Congress leader from Pune said.

As per latest news, Class 12 Economics re-exam will be held on April 25 and the decision on whether to conduct a re-exam for Class 10 Maths paper will be announced later. If the latter happens, it is likely to be restricted only to Delhi and Haryana. There will be no exam for NRI students. Apparently, a hand-written question paper of the Class 12 Economics paper was doing the rounds on Whatsapp a day before the examination. It is also suspected that some parents resold the paper for a sum of Rs. 5000. The Delhi crime branch said that at least 1,000 students could have accessed the leaked papers.

“Students are being unduly harassed and subjected to the whims of the Education Department and the Central Board. They are in no way responsible for the paper leak and should not be asked to put their plans on hold for another month,” Hulyalkar said. He spoke out vehemently in favor of the young minds. He added that the ruling government has little adequate measures in place in case of a paper leak affecting students all over the nation. What is the government doing for so many years in power, he wondered.

The PM who had conducted an interactive session, “Pariksha Par Charcha” with “exam warriors” before the Board Examinations expressed his displeasure over this issue. He even got in touch with HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar on the same. To which he said that "2-3 papers had been leaked on WhatsApp 30 minutes before the exams and we have made a complaint to the Delhi police regarding it." This demonstrates that under the ruling party, anything can happen.

The CBSE exam leak gave an opportunity to the Opposition to lash out at the government. Congress chief Rahul Gandhi tweeted: "How many leaks? Data leak! Aadhar leak! SSC Exam leak! Election date leak! CBSE papers leak! There is a leak in everything, the 'chowkidar' is weak," Congress President Rahul Gandhi said in a tweet.
